Thanks for highlighting this. I was wincing from my recent mongoose purchase and contemplating returning it and getting the Topdon. Now I’ll make peace with the mongoose purchase. I’m going to try a mongoose FDRS run tonight and I’m a bit apprehensive (but confident it’ll be fine once I get some familiarity going).

Here's another fail story with the Autel Maxisys VCI. IPMA bricked and he most likely won't be able to recover it without buying a Mongoose:

I may just suck it up and buy the Cardaq Plus 3 and use it for all of my vehicles. I’m telling my wife it’s all your fault.

You know I found it interesting in that same thread that folks were pulling 30+ amps during programming. This has been my experience with other vehicles as well which is why I run the Clore and would never consider a battery tender or simple charger. I love my NOCO Genius for keeping it charged up while it sits parked but it's not a programming power supply. IMHO, you're as likely to encounter failed updates from low voltage and insufficient power during flashing as lesser interfaces.

Pro tip on running the Clore in power supply mode: pressing the start button makes it work a LOT better. ??‍

The EV's have a 12v battery with half or less then half the capacity that our trucks have. They can't get away with a 20amp power supply......they need a 40amp for the long IPMA updates. If not, it is almost guaranteed the IPMA will brick in the process.
