I am looking at this notebook to run FDRS and PTS on.

Will it do the job?

Yes. With the usual caveat that FDRS is temperamental on Windows 11. But that will be a concern for any new laptop, since only used ones are sold with Windows 10.

What about a tablet? I have an S7
Not sure what an S7 is. but is that’s a surface type device. it needs to have an intel processor and not arm. Needs to run windows.

What are the recommended laptop specifications for running FDRS?
a. Operating System: Windows 7 or Windows 10 Professional (64 Bit only)
b. Internet Explorer Versions: IE 11 (32 Bit)
c. Processor Memory (RAM): 8 GB or greater
d. Processor (RAM) Speed: 2.4 GHz or greater
e. Storage: SSD - Solid State Drive 256GB
f. Processor: Intel I5 6000 or higher
g. USB Ports: 3 - USB 3.0
NOTE: Reference PTS/Motorcraft sites under System Requirements for more detailed
information

You can get a laptop to run these things for ~$200 that's more than capable off facebook marketplace. No need for a new machine for such light duty

Yeah, that one has some years on it though. Those CPUs showed up in 2016 which ironically is when the first time the CPUs powering sync 4 were released :ROFLMAO:

Thanks guys..

My laptop is about 7 years old and slower than you know what. I am going to try a recovery first. Hope it will speed it up. Have run CHKDSK with no errors. Virus and Malware scans with nothing. I am leaning towards HHD is about to crap out. I just might replace the HHD with a SSD or replace the laptop. That is why I posted this thread.

SSD and ram are easy upgrades. A 10yr old machine can easily run it so long as it's got win 10 on it. Wouldn't go for 11.

Swap out that old HDD for an SSD it will be like a new machine. I've had great success with Samsung SSD's, and Samsung's drive magician software. You clone the drive with their software and a special cable via a USB port. then turn off the machine and install the SSD and your done.

I've got 20TB worth of NVME SSDs :giggle:

Even a 'slow' NVME in a 2x2 USBC enclosure makes a great 'flash' drive. Every so often I update my 'video archive' and transferring 6GB files in seconds is just awesome. I tried to get the truck to use one and sync's old architecture just doesn't like the enclosures. If anyone finds an enclosure sync likes, do let me know.

SSD's are one of the best things that's come to PC based computing in years. I've changed out dozens of them at work and the PC really comes to life again, turning milliseconds into nanosecond.s. LOl I've got a couple of old pieces of machinery still running win2k but now on SSD and they work like a charm!
Never thought of plugging one into the truck. It's seems to be some sort of Linux system that's stuck on the 8.3 file system. How big were the drives you tried? Maybe it just can't address very large drives. ?‍♂

I just finished resetting the laptop back to what it was when I first got it. Acer has a restore to original. Installed all the Ford software and all seems not bad, so far. Only thing is that Office 365 installed instead of Office 2017 version that it had. Have to change that and then I will clone a SSD and change out the HDD. Does seem a little faster.
