Is anyone using loctite or something similar on the bolts (or know if Ford does so when these are installed at the factory)? Seems to me like it would be a good thing to add, given the vibration and heat on the underside of the vehicle.

I didn't use any on the bolts. I'm pretty sure they will not back out.

Mine got pretty scratched up during shipment so I decided to prime and paint the bottom this morning in hopes of preventing rust for a couple years. Tomorrow may be the day that it finally gets installed.

My plate came in via FedEx today and is scratched to shit. What products did you use to prime and paint? Yours looks awesome.

Thanks. I just used some Rustoleum rattle can primer over the scratched areas and then top coated it with their acrylic gloss black.

Hahaha, I did the same but with light brown color instead. Had 2 cans sitting around for 5 plus years.

Ya, dealer slapped a label on it with a zip-tie and FedEx apparently just dragged it to their truck haha. I’ll apply some primer, paint and then a layer of Cosmoline. Honestly don’t care how it looks since it will be under the truck, just don’t want it to rust quickly.

Decided the cardboard FX-4 cover is only a minor deterrent for cat thieves and went with the "factory" option. Part # HL3Z-7222-E is the factory Raptor metal plate and runs about $168 from the online retailers. I searched around for the best shipped price and came up with Ford Parts Giant. They just slapped a label on and sent it. I also ordered the nuts and bolts and it turns out my 2021 does not have the front opening for the plates so I went without. It sits sturdy without the front ears bolted in. I contemplated drilling nutserts into the frame but decided against it. I am just over $200 to my door saving a good amount over the aftermarket. I did not purchase the outrageous oil drain cover however.

Looks pretty good, I wonder if there's any weight savings either way. I'm looking at one that's but can't find the weight on it?

Someone on the forums weighed using a home scale and said it weighs 20 lbs. Fords website says 22 lbs.

No, my plate wasn't scratched up, just a few minor little scratches. I can see why people want to paint and spray undercoating on their plate for people up North or snow states. I live in FLA and we don't get much snow and we don't salt our roads here. So I think my plate should last a long time. This is all the ice we get here.

My truck, which sounds very much like yours, didn't have the fiber thing either. You'd think with a platinum...

I'm also interested in the answer to your question.

Its part of the FX4 package. I wonder if Ford ran out of them during the build. Your not missing much. Not really a skid plate after all.
