EV to ICE squeak 2023 PB

I have commented on one or two posts already previously that have a similar sound to mine but haven’t gotten any traction on responses. Hoping that someone here has had this issue and can confirm what I am hoping is an actuator in need of replacement.

2023 PB XLT with about 1k miles. Noise has happened from delivery. It’s a constant squeak regardless of operating temp or outside temp. Only can hear it under speeds of 40mph. It occurs with or without applying the brakes and only occurs when the system is flipping either into EV mode or out of EV mode. The video I’m attaching it sitting in park, pushing the gas to force the ICE to come on and then it squeaks when it’s shutting back off. Occurs about 4 seconds into the video and then on/off throughout the video as I’m pushing on the pedal.

I had a 2022 Wagoneer that I traded in because it had a anti rattle clip noise that the dealership kept “fixing” by applying anti seize grease which lasted for about 2 weeks (among many other things that went wrong with my Wagoneer) so I’m driving myself crazy that I am back to experiencing a squeak that I can’t seem to figure out what’s causing it.

I made another service appointment for next week but hoping someone between now and then has had this issue and can give me more concrete idea of what to tell the Tech needs to be done to solve it.

Had the same problem with mine. I heard of others too. It's the heat exchanger on the exhaust pipe.
It's a warranty thing. They will insist it's not the problem until they put the truck on a lift and listen.

Again it’s a warranty issue that goes along with the heat exchanger leaking and or jamming closed causing a derate on the ICE. New/ upgraded part fixes this. They’re also online for around $200. Quick fix, it’s just a segment of the exhaust they swap out.

I’m familiar with your issue from my post. I’m thinking that since you have a 2023, wouldn’t you have the most up to date heat exchanger and if they replace the part with the same part, will you run into the same issue later on down the road? Seems like there needs to be a complete redesign or Ford needs to get rid of it.

You would think I would. I am curious if mine is possibly something in addition to what others are suggesting or another part in that who assembly as mine happens regardless of operating temperature. Its always the same squeak every time I slow down, speed up, pop in/out of EV/ICE or sitting in park and revving the throttle. I did a 250 mile round trip yesterday and it did it the entire time from the moment I turned the truck on while it was 30 degrees outside, to pulling in my driveway when it was 71 degrees later in the day lol. I'll hopefully have some good news this week as I printed both threads I commented in so I can "help" the dealer not dismiss me.

I think it’s just a bad design. Mine failed at about 13,000 miles. I’m at 47,000 now with no more issues. It does get embarrassing when it sounds like you ran over a dogs tail every time it does it.

Well I should know in about an hour if they truly fixed it or not. I gave them the print outs of the forum responses when I dropped it off at 8am this morning and they just left me a voicemail saying the truck was fixed. The voicemail said "The issue wasn't what was referenced in the printouts, the technician was able to duplicate the noise and solved the issue by greasing the wastegate actuator arm if the noise continues bring it back in for us to diagnose further".

I have no idea what that means, but tried googling it and found nothing matching what he left in the voicemail.

If whatever they did didn't fix it then I have no idea what else to do as I duplicated the sound to the service writer in the pull in when I dropped it off, explained what I was told the issue most likely was and handed him the actual printouts telling him part location, part numbers lol.

Has anyone had a wastegate actuator arm squeak on a powerboost?

I’m curious about this too. Waste gates wouldn’t be doing anything at idle in your garage I would think. But that’s just my guess.

Just got back to work from picking up the truck. It's pouring outside but I tried several time to roll down my window as I was trying to get the noise to occur and it was completely silent-no squeak.

FWIW: It wasn't ever doing it at idle only when forcing the truck to switch from EV/ICE by pushing the accelerator if I was in Park. If I am just sitting still or at a stop light the noise never occurred. It was only slowing down or speeding up when the system was flipping from one to the other when I would hear the squeaking. Putting it in park and revving was forcing it to make the noise so I could get a video and show the dealership it was every single time the system switched.

Glad you got it fixed. Mine would chirp as the ICE turned off. Never when it would start back up. I learned something new to watch out for. Thanks for sharing the ticket.

After reading your fix, I investigated the squeak further and isolated the noise to the engine bay particularly to the passenger side turbo. Looks like I have the same issue as you.

I did a 200 mile round trip this morning for work and can confirm the noise is completely gone. I hope the grease isn't just a few week fix, but so far so good and a lot of the driving was in traffic when the system was constantly going in and out of EV mode. I just wonder why it needed grease to begin with..
