Something I'm curious about, I suspect it is likely normal but I would like to be sure. I have a Powerboost but I am nearly certain that this is something related to the 3.5L engine so putting it in this section of the forum.

I've noticed several times, most commonly with my trailer hooked up and using tow/haul mode, that at very slow speeds/low rpm maybe 1000-1500 rpm the engine makes almost a helicopter-like whoop-whoop noise. I was able to record it as well while idling. Its most noticeable at the beginning of the video more than the end as I move to the other side of the engine. I realize there is metallic ticking in the video as well, which is not the noise that concerns me. It is that helicopter-blade whoop sound that's a little more in the background. Maybe a sort of fluttering sound? When driving through a parking lot towing and low rpm, its even louder. Might be hard to detect on the video unless your ear is close to the speaker. First 5-8 seconds it is loudest.

I realize there are all sorts of things it might be, injectors, switching between port and direct injection, fuel pump, etc. I just want to be sure mainly that it isn't abnormal or piston slap or fuel knock or anything like that.

Appreciate any feedback.

EDIT: I'm also now wondering if this is actually the wastegate flutter noise...?

I tried listening for the same noise on mine but couldn't hear anything. The typical ticking and clicking noises that these engines make seem to be the most prevalent.

Reminds me of that video of the wipers going nuts and sounding like a helicopter...

Hmm my explorer st makes that noise if in a sport mode
Its the trans pump
That keeps everything pumped up
I found it by switching to normal and listening, I was searching for a different sound
But when switched to sport the pump csme on and its almost same sound
Try switching off auto start stop
Or into sport to eco and see if it goes away
