@Roady - Thanks for the response. Most of this is new to me, to be candid. Perhaps I was being fed a line, but a lot of others on these threads have had the same experience. I'll defer to you, as you seem to understand the process better.

One related question - What does the monthly Dealer Allocation have to do with a custom order? Aren't they largely independent (part shortage aside)?
@Madman

This video can explain it better than I can. I have it set to play at the time they talk about allocation.

I was very lucky, I ordered a Platinum with a 6 1/2 ft bed Jan 11, and finally got a VIN # March 7, and it would take another 60 days to built, so I happen to check with a local dealer and they just got one in with the same options I ordered and pick it up the same day. I found out Ford is having a hard time getting all the chips they need to built the trucks.

@Roady,
Thanks! This is pretty informative. I’d subscribed to these father-and-son YouTubers some months ago but had lost interest in them. This one is very helpful.

VIN release happens when the Schedule to Date is set by Ford. Since the VIN encapsulates some of the options you ordered they wont create it until they know they will have parts to build the truck during a build week. Normally the VIN is cut within days after ordering but in this shit show of shortages right now they may be holding on longer just to verify they will get the parts in to build it and can't set a build week until then. Just my 2 cents but that's my guess.

I ordered mine on 2/8 received my VIN on 3/19 along with a build date of 4/19. The dealer told me that Ford does not release a VIN unless they have all the parts for the truck. Mine was missing the wheels and a few other things.

Hard to believe my dealer cannot get a Vin for a high end King Ranch ... Waiting for over 1 month ....

I guess Ford really does not want to sell the trucks ... Really surprised they do not even want to put orders into their system...

Disappointed in a major US company....I see others are switching cannot Blame folks...
Ordered my Powerboost Platinum in Carbonized Grey on Feb 3 and took delivery of it last Friday March 26. Guess I got lucky. The Power boost is something special. Been driving Ford trucks for 43 years. Without a doubt this is the most advanced truck I have ever driven.

I ordered my KR on 2/25 and got the VIN on 3/5 with a 4/5 build week. My dealer checked last week and still said 4/5 week but no more detail yet. My window sticker is also not available. This is for Dearborn and is monochromatic star white with powerboost, max towing and FX4. I’m not sure what this 3-day shutdown will do but I do like the idea of a shutdown better than building and parking somewhere. That does not seem feasible at 1200 trucks a day out of the factory (where do you put them?). I do not understand the process on how the order is chosen there must be some issue with parts, profit, region who knows?
Consider yourself lucky, I ordered a Platinum hybrid on 11/17/2020, got my vin number and told it was built late March, told delivery should be early April. Wow, what a wait.

I now have a order number, had to chase the dealer, after speaking to Ford. Ford corporate told me they will be able to provide a update if I had the order number. I will keep all posted as this progresses

*HERE'S WISHING I GET MINE BY CHRISTMAS... ORDERED 3/29/21

I started with the spec’s from Ford's "Build and Price" website, and their MSRP of $46,230. Got a $42,246 quote from Granger. I sent that number and the same spec’s to about 20 other dealers near and far. Some respond, most did not. I had to go back and forth with several of them as they tried to figure me out... I stuck to the facts of what I wanted, “an out-the-door price”. (with kudos to yourautoadvocate: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzGxSaDv_5dgSe4RgJ99sfA) Their videos were very helpful in understanding what and how to do the deal.

It took me nearly two months and over 70 emails (I counted them) of back and forth until I felt I had done all I could do. Only twice did I meet face to face with a salesperson, and the second time I PUT MY MONEY DOWN!

(Generally speaking, $1,000-1,500 under invoice is a fair deal.) All my computer clicking and sore eyes from staring at the screen got me $2,837 below invoice. My final o-t-d price was $40,500 (w/o Ford financing, which if I take, will bring it down another grand.)

My math figures approximately 12.3% below MSRP.

CAN’T WAIT TO GET MY TRUCK (3,4,5,6,7) MONTHS FROM NOW!

What did you order with it? I ordered a 4x4 701A Platinum Carbonized Gray PowerBoost 5.5' bed and only Trailer Tow package. I submitted my order on 1/7, build date was pushed back multiple times and it was built on 3/19, now it is just waiting. Your timeline is unheard of here w/ the current situation.

701A Platinum 4x4, 5.5’ bed with Max Tow and console work surface. Also got the moonroof, the locking under seat storage under the rear seat and the spray in bed liner. Chose not to get the full recline seats.
