let me start with this....I have a 2021 XLT PowerBoost

I cant seem to definitively tell how much I can actually tow. I am looking at purchasing a used travel trailer and it is slightly over 7500 lbs loaded

if I do NOT have the tow package I am limited to 7k lbs if I am not mistaken?

I have the class IV trailer hitch and 7/4 pin connectors

can someone please tell me what my max tow rate should be? I can also provide VIN/window sticker/door placard

@Buyer2021 it does say the 7000lbs max trailer rating

is there a way to increase the towing capacity after the fact?

Short answer, legally? No.

Long, expensive answer, if you can find an outfitter who is licensed to re-rate vehicles and is willing to do so, after some suspension alterations, possibly.

My own story, for whatever little it is worth... I have a small-ish camper that was well within the capabilities of a Ford Ranger. After towing it for a while, something just did not feel comfortable. Hard to define exactly, I simply thought the Ranger was working harder than I wanted it to going up hills at highway speeds.

Traded up for an F-150 and now I sometimes forget the camper is back there. Much more comfortable towing experience. Plus, I can trade up on the camper if I want to; something I could not do before.

Being a little under the upper limits is OK but I want to be comfortable driving the combination.

If it helps...
Strictly reading the charts, you have the higher GCWR - you just cannot get there without breaking another rule.
For 'bumper' or conventional towing, you (and I) are limited by a tiny footnote to 7K.
(Again, strictly reading, only 53A increases towing, not 53C - doh!)
For my truck, there is still a chart footnote for 5/GN, that is ignored for online calculator.
Funny thing is, this footnote appears only for 21-23, not there 20, not there 24. Combined with above errors, something has to be wrong. NTL, it is what a lawyer will show the jury.

This is my towing numbers according to Ford. With a WDH I can go to 11,048 lbs. That's with only 1 person and the box is empty. I don't have max tow, just tow teck.

Disclaimer: I'm just a random guy on the internet who has read forum posts on this topic by other internet randos, so this is not official information.

Having said that, my truck is equipped like yours (21 PB, Tow Technology, 3.73, heavy duty payload). According to the VIN calculator, my max towing is 7000lbs, as well. However, it's my understanding that all Powerboost trucks have the upgraded cooling system, so the only difference between our trucks and ones that have the official tow package (53A) is suspension, specifically the front anti-roll bar.

I don't remember exactly where I saw it, but IIRC, the tow package trucks have a solid front sway bar, while the Tow Technology (17T) and base trucks have a hollow one. The part is around $100 from Ford if you want to switch it out, but that still won't change your official rating or the number on your door jamb sticker, even if functionally you are the same as a 53A truck at that point. It's up to you whether you want to take that "chance".

I think you guys are wrong if you're saying that the only way to go above 7,000 lbs is by installing an upgraded front sway bar, upgraded cooling, upgraded rear axle, etc. The Ford towing guide says you can go to 9,100 or higher with the PowerBoost with simply the 53A package, versus the basic 53B package. The only stated additions with the 53A package are 1) TBC, 2) Tailgate LED and 3) Pro Trailer Backup Assist. Obviously 2 and 3 have nothing to do with the physical ability of the truck to pull a load. So this tells me you can go from 7k to 9k just by installing a TBC. It's the heavy-duty 53C package that adds upgraded rear axles and bumpers, which gets you about 10% higher GCWR.

just to throw another monkey wrench into the discussion, I went and checked my hitch just to see what it says.

V-5 hitch with 11,600 lb weight distributing. So at this point I'm not even sure Ford knows :cwl:
