Dealer that sold me the truck called me this evening, 3 or more folks in the room on their end (hey guys, I can literally hear you feeding answers to the one talking), but I digress. Lots of blame put on the dealer that currently had possession of my truck. Said I need to go get truck tomorrow since codes were cleared (nevermind the fact they can't yet diagnose what caused them to trigger to begin with and it's almost certain to repeat ) Said if, God forbid, a warning light hits again...to call them and they'll come get it, and they now, as if by magic, have a loaner reserved specifically for me if that does happen. Caveat- I can only put 500miles on said loaner before I have to park it and let them know I need another. Reference, I had 340 miles on my new one by Weds morning when I took it in to be checked out. So, you're saying that you'll bring me a replacement every 3-4 days for the next who knows how long when I've yet to get even the first loaner? I don't know man....we'll see.

I’ve been in your shoes. Back in 2015 bought a brand new Explorer and started looking at the forum's a few days later. Read about the back being filled with water as the seams on top were not done right. Decided heck I should check mine on my brand new Sport Explorer after a storm. Son of a Bi#$# if the whole back wasn’t full of water. The dealer worked with me on returning it but I still took a loss. There should be a longer return period on such a expensive purchase.

I am in the middle of a similar scenario with my 2023 XLT 5.0 screw 6.5 - already had it to the local ( not purchasing ) dealer once and they said "no problems found". Almost every time I drive it I get intermittent loud grinding from what I think is the front hubs - like they are trying to engage. Happens most often either when pulling up to a stop on the brakes, or sometimes just cruising along in gear 8/9. Sometimes it stops on it's own , other times the only way to make it stop is to shift into 4wd and then back to 2wd. No codes or warning lights to track it though unfortunately, just random nasty sounding grinding. I am very much regretting the purchase, and I also am taking delivery of a custom Leer topper later this week. Sorry I don't have any suggestions that might help, just sharing the same pain I guess.

Yeah, that does sound very similar to the sound I've been hearing that accompanies the vibration in the accelerator, like you said only in/around 9th gear. Picked mine up as advised Sat, didn't drive it much this weekend. Trans light was back on before I got to the office today, they're on their way with a loaner. Just hoping they can diagnose and fix the issue/s

Mine is not a powerboost/EcoBoost just to clarify ( 5.0 ) and I also have not ever had any warning ligths or active codes. I did find some old codes prior to purchase in ForScan related to low battery and a transmission control module low power, but none of them have resurfaced and it appears the factory battery was replaced in my truck while it was on the lot - there is a carfax record suggesting as much.

My main concern at this point is that I would be hesitant to keep driving it with the grinding noise all the way to the dealer as it literally sounds like something in the front end is going to blow up/fall apart. And also the random nature - yesterday it happened 4 or 5 times in a short drive to the store and back, and other days it won't happen at all.

And since it seems to be completely random with no codes, even if they find a bad component who's to say it wont fail again.

Honestly if I could just have my 2017 back I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Well...bought a new 23' F150 PowerBoost XLT Friday. Like 4 days ago Friday. Transmission wrench lit up within 70 miles of leaving dealer headed home. Pulled over immediately, called/text dealer, got a response within 45 mins or so. Drive it home as long as it isn't acting up "too bad". They'll send a loaner up in the AM and pick mine up. I started it back up, light was off, drove home and then to the gym next morning and still no light. All the while though, there was a strange vibration in the gas pedal and friction type noise in 9th gear, but it was transient. No loss of power or anything like that. Sat morning they decide, eh no warning light no problem, ok whatever you say as Ive never owned an F150... Tues evening the wrench lights up, as does the CEL for a potentially stuck closed turbo wastegate. I drive home slowly, message dealer. They tell me a loaner is no longer available and to take it to my local dealer and have them pull the codes and it should be handled quickly. So I go to the other dealer this morning and they say it's 3 weeks before they'll even look at what the issue is. My dealer says they're out of loaners, this dealer that has my truck will not loan one, meanwhile I'm sitting in the frickin lobby of my Huntsville dealer that I didn't even buy the truck from so I'm just a number...Bought a brand new truck Friday and had to miss work today, wait 6 hours at a dealership that I didn't buy the truck from, for my wife to pick me up and take me home. I have kept perspective today as much as possible...it's not cancer, no one died, we have food, etc.. You know, my issue is that I just don't feel like anyone cares other than my sales guy, who is new, I actually feel kinda bad for the guy. Stuff happens right, I mean we all know that, but it's how you handle it that sets you apart and so far it's ? not acceptable
Can you please send over a message with your VIN and the name/location of the Ford dealer you are currently working with? I would like to take a look into your concerns on my end!

I hear you 100%, with the luck I've had on this truck it will be a totally separate and unrelated issue to the warning lights I've had. I did mention it to the service guy that called about picking it up today so maybe they can address it all at once. It seems like with these trucks you either get a pretty good one or the complete opposite

The 72 hour vehicle return policy is a myth in most states.

https://legalbeagle.com/6427923-laws-returning-new-car-alabama.html
But the Federal Trade Commission does have a 3 days buyer's remorse. So yes, a state might not have a cooling off period but the FTC does. In FL, I've always been informed when purchasing or leasing, that I've got 3 days and I have cancelled a sale 2 days later when I realized I was not sold what I asked for (feature was missing that I specifically asked for).

There is still a catch even to this rule. Vehicles sold at a temporary site are not covered by the 72 hr buyers remorse. Supplying a link to FTC buyers remorse along with the paragraphs from this link.

Types of Sales the Rule Doesn’t Cover

In addition, the Rule doesn’t cover sales that involve
  • real estate, insurance, or securities
  • cars, vans, trucks, or other motor vehicles sold at temporary locations, if the seller has at least one permanent place of business
  • arts or crafts sold at fairs or places like shopping malls, civic centers, and schools

Update - I opened a case with Ford and magically, or maybe just ironically, got a call from the selling dealership the night of 12/8 I believe, there were a few of them in the room on the call. I could tell because the finance mgr, who I actually liked (maybe that's why he was the one that called..) kept getting answers from someone else in the room. I brought it up and got to speak with the other guy, assuming a sales manager or similar since it sounded like he was reading out of a management manual. Basically any time I would say something it was as though he was just waiting for his turn to talk again. Said something about how I needed to get the truck from the dealer they told me to take it to, so that they could pick it up and be the ones to perform the repair. I'm like you guys are the ones that told me to take it there to begin with, where I had to sit all day because you also gave me incorrect info about how long I'd be there. Now you want ME to go get it??? He threw in something along the lines of, I can't just do you a favor and give you a loaner. Now I know you think I'm kidding, but the man actually said that to me. I said something mildly sarcastic back like "yeah I'd hate for you to have to do me any favors", he replied with "oh I can hear a little sarcasm there".... I had kept it 100% cordial up until that point, and still didn't yell or anything like that, but I definitely explained to him how I was a business owner myself and also in sales, and basically expressed my almost disbelief in their management's post sales efforts with my issues. He tried saying the other dealer could also give me a loaner and I'm like they didn't sell me the new truck with issues, or give me the run around after doing so, don't you feel like you should be the ones to make this right. I said man I don't really care whose fault anything is, I just need help at this point. He said they could probably get me a car or SUV and I'd have to swap it out every 300 miles..just further frustration at this point since I drive quite a bit. We got off the phone, I picked truck up the next morning and the warning lights came on again on my way to work. To their word and credit they picked up the truck at my office and dropped me off a loaner, it was actually a new F150 so that was nice. Issue was determined to be a failed waste gate actuator, they ordered it and got it next day, I picked it up maybe 2-3 days later (they got right on it) way to go service dept. Truck has driven fine ever since. So much hassle/stress could have been avoided if they'd made different choices at several points during this process. I will say that my Ford company rep was outstanding along the way, and I later found out that I was his first case. Hopefully he won't get jaded and will continue to work as hard as he does now. I appreciated the comments and empathy from you guys while going through this mess, carry on !

Glad it finally worked out and you have your truck back!

That being said, what in the world is waste gate actuator?

I read up on it and best I could tell it's like a release "gate" for built up boost in the turbo. I'm butchering that explanation as I can wrench about as good as my 9 year old, but that's the gist
