I figured I would check and see if anyone else has run into this issue or if anyone has any advice. Long story short, I got an email with my production date, which after my six month wait I was thrilled about. Come to find out, my dealer messed up the order and didn’t put power deployable running boards and upgraded sound system in the system. On my signed order sheet they are both shown but they must have keyed something in wrong after the fact, I have no idea.
From what I’ve read, once you have been scheduled and have a VIN there’s no changes that can be made without loosing your place. Does anyone know what can be done? On the one hand it’s just a sound system and running boards but on the other, they messed up and I have a signed order sheet showing those features and I’ve waited for this and want it to be the way I ordered it. Does anyone know if anything can be done or what I should try to get them to do? Any advice would be wonderful and the dealer is “looking into it”.

I cannot speak about the sound system as the regular upgraded system (not unleashed) is great for me. However, I would miss the power running boards, and I really do love having them.

With that said there are "better" power boards out there that can be added after. It is nice to have the OEM intergrated with the rest of the truck so this is the option that I would miss terribly. It drops down enough to even out the climb in height and tucks away when not in use.

This change is not something like a model change or engine change so your dealer should be able to add it without interruption, but I do not know for sure. Stay on them and good luck.

You can walk away from the order. Since it is not what you contracted for you are not obligated to accept it. That's your option. You could look around and see if something on another dealer's lot meets your desires and purchase that one... Otherwise, take it when it arrives, lower the price for the missing items, and close the deal. The add on aftermarket stuff...

I wouldn't accept a $60+k vehicle that was not exactly how I ordered it.

However, if you're not in dire need of a vehicle immediately, I would tell the dealer to restart the ordering process. It's basically a 2-3 month wait at this point.

Thanks for the reply, yea I would love to have it exactly how I ordered it especially because I plan on having it for a long time. The frustrating part is that this is their mistake and I feel like they should make it right but don’t have much leverage.

I agree, the OEM integration is what sold me on it in the first place. Hopefully you’re right and they can do a simple swap on those two things. It is frustrating because this is definitely their mistake but I don’t think my options will be that great.

I know it sucks not getting it exactly like you want. Especially after waiting for months for Ford to finally build it, but it's not the end of the world if you do take this one when it comes in. I'd say contact the dealer on it and see if they will make it right on the running boards at least. They may even cut you a deal on the kicker sub setup and install as well.

The dealer can add OEM power running boards. It's a lot of work for them but they can do it. On the sound system, depending on if it's the standard B&O system or Unleashed that's a different story. If you were just getting the standard B&O you can easily match or beat it for a couple hundred in aftermarket speakers for the doors and a small 8" sub behind the seat. With the right speakers for the doors you won't even need an amp for them. Kicker makes some CS and DS 2/3ways that are designed to run on lower power and sound amazing even off the factory head unit. (That's what I did on mine) You can get the Ford Kicker 8" sub system for around 500 and when installed it looks and acts factory or any competent stereo shop can install a small sub that will blow the B&O out of the water.

I added BlueCruise and Park Assist after I received my build date and it didn't affect my build date. I would think both of your misses would be easier to implement than Blue Cruise with all the extra sensors.

Good to know. It was the B&O Unleashed but like you said there are 3rd party options. Crazy that we are completely at the mercy of dealers though.

i had a similar situation when i bought my truck. though it was because they forgot to f*cking add tow mirrors to my truck order. i kept pressing them about it and the GM of the dealership put out their own money to order me a set of tow mirrors.

Super frustrating, no visibility on what they are doing then waiting months on end to find out they messed up just to be told tough. Take it or leave it. Kinda messed up

Depending on the screw-up most dealers will work with you to make it right. At least dealers in the US will. Not sure how they are down-under though.
