Cruise turning on randomly.

I am not 100% sure this isn't me hitting the button accidently while holding the wheel, but has anyone else experienced the cruise control just randomly coming on at times? I don't mean to a set speed, just that the system is turned on like the button was pressed. I'm never paying attention to that area enough it seems to notice it coming on, on its own.

When it turns on, is there anything showing up on the dash? When I turn mine on it sets itself to the speed I am going.

Ya know that’s a good question. It may have set the speed, what I notice is that the digital speedo gets replaced with a picture of the vehicle and then I turn it off.

Usually notice after I make a turn, which is why I think I’m hitting it accidentally. But it could be a bad clockspring or something.

I just had the same thing happen twice. I am sure I didn't touch anything. Most recently, it turned on and sped up just after I took my foot off the gas approaching an intersection. Almost ran a red light. Dangerous! Dealer doesn't have a clue, but wants to charge me $200 to look at it in case it isn't covered by the ESP.

Any ideas?

I have accidentally engaged cruise multiple times on my 22 F150 and 25 F250. My left palm hits the steering wheel button which engages it.

On my truck at least, you would have to "accidentally" hit the cruise control srart button and then hit the set button. Hard to do accidentally.

That's not what the OP posted. He said it is turning on, not setting a speed. I would bet he is fat fingering (with the palm) that button.

I don't have that truck anymore, but its likely my palm when steering. I know I have done that on the current truck

Interesting. Did you contact Ford and did they offer assistance?

I just dropped my truck off for an alignment and TSB’s recalls.
I also have two electronic glitches that need addressing but the dealer said I need to leave it for a week. Not able to just yet but he said they are backed up till Jan..

My two items are the sound compensation volume is not working and occasionally I’ll get a tailgate ajar light over rough surfaces.

Apparently Ford has a shortage of electronic techs, at least at my dealer.
