So my 21 PB lariat 502A is back in the shop for the 3rd time since I bought it in august. The first was volume control not working for anything from the infotainment system. The second was for the stupid fuel door peg popping off. This time it is this terrible creaking noise I get when taking off from a stop. It also happens when I put it in gear from park. It has gotten progressively louder since I first noticed it. The truck has been at the dealership since last Wednesday and I noticed parked outside today. It’s obvious that they can’t figure the issue. The only good thing is that they agree there’s a problem and they can hear it themselves.
I am at my wits end. They gave me a loaner which is a 2020 3.5 XLT, and sad to say, even being a beat on loaner, it feels so good to drive a normal ICE without all of the quirks and issues. I’m ready to trade down. I don’t want to spend every other month trying to decipher the problem du jour! Good grief!
just curious if anyone else has had this creaking sound???? I’m

I’m posting this to help others who might run into the same problem. Ford is suggesting that it is the axle, so that is getting replaced. Which Makes more sense than it being the brakes as first suggested. And yes you guessed it, it is on backorder.
looks like I will be in the loaner for the holidays.

I would appreciate any help on initiating a buy back from Ford. I’ve read some posts on here about folks who have been successful. I am wondering what the criteria is for opening and ultimately winning.

Here's hoping your issue gets resolved. That said, these issues don't seem to be power-train-specific, unless I'm missing something?

Mine made a loud creaking sound in the back of the cab when it was hot out still. I have not heard it since the highs dropped out of the upper 90's but expect it to come back and will ask Ford about it. I assume it is coming from the back window but never could pinpoint it.

What you're describing isn't in the category of a buy-back, but maybe Ford would agree to a trade into another F-150, so I'd suggest you pursue that deal if it means you have a vehicle you're happy to find in the driveway.
If it's any consolation, my PowerBoost has never let me down and doesn't have any niggling quality issues. I just drove it 2000 miles cross country and watched the odometer tick over 15000 and then 16000 miles, often being reminded how smoothly and quietly it cruises, no cabin rattles or squeaks, not even a lot of wind noise (for a square brick of a truck.)

I was told that Ford engineering recommended replacing the axle. I happened to agree with them as the sound only occurs when there is a sudden load. Either from taking off or putting in gear.

I got the word from my dealership that they replaced the axle and it that was indeed the issue. I am currently on vacation in Hawaii, and won’t be able to pick up the truck until 1/15/22. I will report back how it is after I drive it myself.

I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem.

I do but it might just be the fact that I'm driving a 1994 rusty bronco at the moment! Slip joint in the drive shaft needs lubed on mine.

I have the exact same thing and dealer said Ford Engineering required the axel to be replaced. Now waiting on the axel to arrive.

How long did it take your axel to come in?

It took about 3 weeks and the dealer was surprised when it came in. They were expecting several more weeks by the sound of it. They said it showed up unexpectedly. According to them that was indeed the issue. I have yet to pick it up because I am away. But I will be home this weekend. I will report back after I drive it.

It's been a while now since I got my baby back, so I wanted to report on the result. That was indeed the problem. While I wish this did not happen at all, I am at least happy that it happened under warranty. My gas mileage has improved as well. I got an OTA update at the same time, so the jury is out on which one contributed, but I am not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.
I will say this much; I have never been a fan of extended warranties. I've always been of the opinion that ultimately the house wins. Otherwise there would be little reason to offer them from a business standpoint. I keep that same money that I would spend on a warranty aside, and just pony up and pay out of pocket when something happens. That was my thinking until now. I will not own this one without some sort of warranty. So if decide to keep beyond the original MFG warranty, I will buy the extended. There are just way too many things that can go wrong, and some already have.

I have always owned Hondas and have put at least 500k of relatively trouble-free miles on them without serious powertrain issues, so I always ignored EW's. These trucks are just so complex I might be considering an EW whenever they build this thing.

Old thread I know... BUT tonight I really noticed the creaking noise from the rear axle. Jacked it up and moved things around, seems like the wheel bearings to me, the wheels can clunk a tiny bit back and forth, more so the driver side, but both rear wheels do it. on the ground or jacked up, same thing. The axle shafts are definitely NOT firmly in place I know that... Nervous that my 1900 mile 22 F150 Reg.Cab. Short bed which is now sitting on Shelby wheels and Ridetech suspension will have a warranty issue that they won't honor due to modifications...

I know this thread is a little older but wondering if my 22 Platinum Powerboost Max Tow is running into the same thing. I’ve got to verify my left rear axle bolt is also intact but confirmed right side is still ok. I am hearing this sound which I can only best describe as either a creaking or rattling noise. It happens driving at lower speeds, while braking or accelerating, as well as when I shift gears (drive to reverse, vice versa). I know noises can be damn near impossible to nail down but hoping someone recognizes similar sound and can validate my concern before I head to dealership. I’m due up for another oil change shortly so I’d like to have them address at same time. The 2 clip links I’ve added are what I’ve recorded. Any help or guidance is appreciated!

I have the exact same noises on my 3-week old 23 Lariat PB with 600 miles. It was manufactured in May of '23, which is supposedly not affected by the earlier axle issues, but who knows. If you wind up addressing with your dealer please keep us updated!

Will do…taking it in Monday morning for them to figure it out. Oddly enough the more rattle style noise in my driving video doesn’t seem to be happening or I’m not noticing anymore but the one of me backing up and moving forward definitely still is. The creaking style sound is definitely still occurring. So be interested to see what they say.
