The 'tow package' on the powerboost is the TBC. The max tow swaps out the axle and rear brakes alone, despite the factory axle and brakes already able to handle loads that exceed what the PB is capable of. There's a sweet spot with the powerboost config that basically makes its package 'free' when you're already going to get a lot of features…
You may be correct. However, the towing guide says that you are limited to lower loads when towing without a tow package. Is that a real mechanical limit, given the poweboost’s beefier frame? I don’t know. I guess it depends upon how much faith you place in the documents that Ford produces.

In any case, you can’t order tow mirrors without a towing package. One could certainly add them after delivery, at significant expense and a good deal of technical fiddling—it wouldn’t deter many, but some would likely rather avoid that effort. If I recall correctly, the cost of upgrading the mirrors would pay for most or all of the tow package cost in the first place. Temporary snap-on mirrors are also another option, if you don’t want the permanent tow mirrors.

Thanks for sharing this document. I just pulled it up and did an estimate of my payload with the truck I've ordered ('23 F-150 Platinum 4x4 PB) and it cuts about 300 lbs. of payload weight. The weight of some of these options raises eyebrows, such as the spray in bedliner. If I'd known that, I may have opted to not get it!

I'm estimating a payload of about 1,477 lbs based on the document. A 334 lbs. reduction thanks to niceties.

We're planning to buy our first travel trailer after we get used to the truck's size, and I'm new to towing, so I just want to make sure we aren't putting ourselves (or anyone else on the road) at risk by being outside the thresholds of the truck!
Please share actual payload when received.
Platinums are usually in the 1200# range.

Let us know the delivered payload.
You must be getting the Standard without sunroof and bed utility.
I took the same approach with my King Ranch 2WD. Sticker payload 1787#(I question accuracy- Ford posted before actual build and calculations from multiple samples were>1800#). Brand new, full tank CAT scale payload 1850#.Hopefully, you estimate will be good.

Sure thing.

I'm getting the moonroof and bed utility. I subtracted it from the document provided in the thread:

Yes, if you don't have a TBC you shouldn't be towing as much as a truck that has them. That should be fairly apparent I'd assume, no? When all other things are equal, tractive effort is a direct function of mass. As such you'll see that the heavier trucks have heavier non-TBC ratings. For the various F150 trims the non TBC rating is 5, 6 or 7klb. This number is given based on the mass of the truck and its corresponding authority over the trailer (and vice versa). The tow package on the PB is the TBC. You can buy the mirrors separately for the price of the tow package.

As I stated previously though, ford's configurator and packages changes so there's really no way to specifically tell what they make a requirement at any point. The PB's included features don't change though. All trims of the PB from the factory have a hitch rated for a hair under 1400lb tongue weight. It's a component of the HEV-HD frame, just like the inclusion of the max tow's radiator and rear springs.
