For those of you who have had the CarPlay TSB done, did it address your disconnecting issues? My CarPlay has been flawless for 2 years, but in the past month it has started disconnecting, but always in the same spots close to major power lines. Since it is always in these same spots that seems like an outside interference issue, I am wondering if the TSB will do anything

My 2024 started disconnecting and reconnecting a few days ago.

Oh yeah, “WOW” for sure…depending on how far “out of date” your truck is, it can take many HOURS to get through the list. It is like playing whack-a-mole too as one update leads to another leads to another and another. Some updates can take a couple of hours just to complete. I’ve done my ‘24 truck and ‘22 Ford Escape now twice with two x 2 day subscriptions to FDRS using my $575 Mongoose cable plus $120 12V 20 amp power supply. In all, I’ve probably spent 20+ hrs total updating them both. But if it wasn’t for several experts on this site I would have never got the courage to do it. So thanks to them!

What necessitates having this done?

Id say mine works great 95+ % of the time. Sometimes I have to put phone in airplane mode then reconnect. Once or twice the CarPlay screen wouldn’t resize till after restarting the truck.

I just assumed usual weird phone and computer glitches.

Is this for that or are people experiencing regular severe malfunction?

Slightly related but slightly off topic… did you notice improvements by doing all of that?

Good question. Wasn’t really experiencing anything bad before I did the updates (both vehicles were fairly new, so not that far off) and not really noticing any improvements afterwards either. I can say the same thing for the updates to my iPhone I get all the time too. So, wasn’t really worth my time but I can’t stand it when as soon as you buy something it is immediately out of date. So I really like the capability to do these updates.

Huge thanks for this information. I have been mildly infuriated with my truck’s CarPlay performance. This sounds exactly like what is going on with it. Cheers!
Foolish me. I assumed Ford took care of this, on their dime if truck is out of warranty. Sigh.

When it’s a recall, yes they take care of it on their dime. When it’s a customer service program they also usually take care of you for free, even out of warranty, by typically extending the warranty on that item. For a TSB, you have to still be in warranty for them to fix it for free, and extended warranty might not help either with costs, but often does. The TSB will usually say if it is covered under Ford extended warranty. A TSB is just Ford telling their dealer techs how to diagnose and fix a problem that has started to crop up often enough to warrant them issuing the instructions.

My truck is going into the dealer next week to correct a range of issues (software and mechanical), including the CarPlay issues described in TSB 25-2048. They're providing me with a rental car and I assume the work will require 2-3 days.

TSB took my dealership 2 hours, as I only had 2 modules that needed to be updated. It did not fix my issues though. I still drop wireless Carplay when I get close to some high power transmission lines. When I drive my wife's Kia on this same route my phone does not disconnect from the wireless carplay in that vehicle, so it would appear that Ford is using some frequency that is more easily interfered with by outside signals.

My Apple car play was working perfectly both plugged in and wirelessly up until around the time this TSB came out (February). Since then it will not connect wirelessly at all, and my screen freezes up all the time. Yesterday the screen was completely black and never even booted up for my entire 15 minute drive. When I restarted the truck it booted up but then froze. I manually rebooted the screen 5-6 times before it finally worked. I can't plug in my phone until it boots up or it will freeze every time and I have to reboot again.

Last night I tried resetting all of my modules with Forscan again (I've done this 2-3 times now with no success), and then disconnected the battery for 30 minutes to manually reset everything. Still no success.

I have an extended powertrain warranty but not bumper to bumper so I guess I'm screwed (50,500 miles on MY21 truck). I'm not in the position to spend thousands of dollars at the dealership for them to fix it out of warranty. Sucks, but I guess this is what I have to live with for getting a newer truck with all of this tech. Who knows, maybe I'll just sell it and buy something older that has less tech and is more reliable.

Definitely frustrating.
