Brand New Tow Mirror Studs Sheered

Hi All,

Less than a month ago I picked up brand new OEM tow mirrors for my 2021 which came with the regular BLIS, puddle and spotlight mirrors from factory. Install went smooth. First side took about 10 mins taking my time to ensure it was fitted right. Torqued all bolts to the proper spec and moved along to the other side. Now, less than a month later I’m coming home and notice the passenger side is shaking a bit more than normal over bumps.
Pull the cover off thinking bolts may not be tight enough but end up seeing the nut hanging from the holder that connects to the wiring harness and the stud snapped right off the mirror.

Dealer is telling me I may be out of luck on warranty given that I installed myself but I’m having a tough time with that considering I paid $1000+ CAD for these mirrors and installed them as per factory spec, just to have the stud sheer off. I do not do aggressive or offroad driving by any means, just normal road.

Wondering if anyone here has any ideas for me. Pics have been attached. Thanks in advance.

Try reaching out to Ford customer service phone line. Just ask what warranty is on Ford parts self installed. Not sure how many dealers are near you could try another dealer.

I've gotten myself into more trouble with a torque wrench than by feel. This is one of those by feel situations.

I'd try to buy a smashed mirror on CL, FBMP, or even Ebay. I'd try removing the stud from the mirror with heat, etc. and see if it could be done. If so, then you know what to do to swap the studs over.

If you don't get any satisfaction from Ford.

I would try cutting off the broken threaded part smooth and then drill and tap a hole in the larger base, or take it to a machine shop and let them do it. Reinstall the mirror with one bolt and one nut.

Edit: I find a lot of things can be fixed easier going to a machine shop rather then replacing them. Case in point, Zero turn spindle bearing went - $300.00 for a new one from dealer - $45.00 fix at machine shop.

80 inch pounds just like the instructions said.

going to try Jhelrey’s solution first otherwise this might be the way.

Not sure where mirrors fall into the mix but most OEM Ford parts and accessories carry a 24 month warranty. I would reach out directly to Ford.
