Higher friction will result in greater wear on the rotors. Replacing the pads is cheap compared to dealing with the rotors, either resurfacing or replacing them.

With disc brakes at all four wheels I have no problems with stopping my trucks regardless of the payload. My 1998 Chevy had drum brakes at the rear and it took forever to bring it to a full stop from 55 mph.
Rotors are cheap when compared to repairing the front end of your truck.

If you tailgate or your attention is on your cell phone then faster stopping may be a concern. I prefer to watch the road and anticipate the actions of inattentive and other DUI drivers. Not that difficult to do but if you suffer from mental lapses then best to let others drive.

The concept of safe driving distance based on your speed evidently was missed or ignored. If you allow one car length for every 10 mph you will be in the ball park - if you are not busy testing on your phone.

Deer, hogs, dogs, pedestrians, other drivers coming other directions. I feel certain there are more.

I agree on texting. A killer.

Would you recommend these for pulling a 6.5k trailer?
I've had the EBC Extra Duty front pads and EBC USR "silent" slotted rotors installed for about 1,500 miles now and to quote my wife "they are embarrassing". They aren't the loudest brake pads I've ever heard, but they are obnoxiously loud, especially since they are marketed as making "zero noise". I gave them a chance and did everything I could to get them quiet, but the set I got is no good.

At this point I would happily buy more EBC rotors, but it's unlikely that I'll buy another set of their brake pads.

I had to replace the rotors on a 1998 Chevy Tahoe at 32,000 miles that had 28,000 miles of use when I bought it. I used aftermarket rotors and pads and drove the Tahoe for another 140,000 miles and the pad and rotors were in excellent condition when I sold the truck.

Stopping distance was terrible and in 1999 GM went to putting disc brakes at all four wheels. I knew that the brakes on my 1998 were not good and so I left a larger gap for safety. I had a kid stop in front of me when he was going across the freeway and although the speed limit was 55 mph and most motorists would be doing 70 mph in this area I was traveling at 55 mph. I slammed on the brakes using both feet and the truck stopped less than 3 feet from hitting the driver of the sedan. At 70 mph I would have t-boned and killed the kid.

It's been so long since I have had drum brakes I would need to look at a youtube video. I still have the tools however.

Drum brakes are making a comeback for EVs due to their enclosed nature helping to alleviate rust issues from lack of use. Disc brakes don't kindly to not being used.

That is a good excuse not to buy an EV in my book. It is interesting to know that. It makes sense.

Wonder where akebono pads fall in this mix. I just installed some on the rear of my truck along with new rotors.

Take any modern 400+hp AWD EV into traffic / around town and it will click. The experience is unlike any ICE vehicle. You can hit any gap, join up with ~50mph traffic in ~2 seconds. If it weren't for range and charging time on longer trips I wouldn't own an ICE. No maintenance, no warm up time, no gear changes. The power of a longsword with the precision of a scalpel.

No different than the transition we've seen from power tools. Gas, corded electric and air tools have all transitioned to battery powered.

Another bad look for electrics. I realize assumptions must be made here. Facts at this point are scarce.

I have been in a number of UBER cars that are electric or Hybrids, Teslas included. They are very impressive and comfortable vehicles.

I saw a YouTube of a Tesla Model S drag racing some heavy duty muscle cars. It was wiping them up. The last run was on 10% charge and he still wiped it.

The Tesla Model S Plaid uses 7,920 battery cells in a 400 volt architecture. These cells are arranged in five modules, each containing 72 parallel groups of 22 cells in series.

An electric would satisfy 90+% of my driving needs.

I would still struggle to park my car inside my garage. There are just too many cells for me to contend with from a comfort perspective.

This ship fire at some point will hit the salt water. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I started working on drum brakes when I was ~14. I was hoping for their demise then, but sadly, 30+ years later, they are apparently making a comeback...

I've never used EBC brake pads before, but I'll be installing a set of EBC ExtraDuty front pads along with their USR "silent" slotted rotors later this month to see how they compare to the factory pads and rotors.

I would imagine that they would work great when towing, but I don't have any first hand experince with them yet.
Where the heck did you find their rotors? I’m having such a hard time finding any good rotors for these trucks. Even pads aren’t the easiest to find

I wound up ordering the rotors from BuyBrakes.com when none of the retailers I normally use had them in stock. Just keep in mind that the rotors are nice, but the EBC Extra Duty front pads I got were unacceptably loud.

RockAuto has lots of pads in stock. I contacted Akebono and they said their ACT2382 (ceramic) pads have a GG friction rating so they might be a good option. Their severe duty SDF2382 (semi-metallic) pads have a FE friction rating, so I wouldn't buy them.
