I have a hitch mounted Versahaul rack that I use for my motorcycle. The motorcycle covers the taillights for the most part when on the rack. I would like to put taillights on the rack and connect them to the trailer connector, but then the truck thinks there is a trailer attached and I can no longer use Bluecruise hands-free, since Ford doesn't allow that with a trailer (Chevy does). Hopefully Ford will change this someday, but does anyone know of any workaround that would provide lights without the truck sensing a trailer connected? Thanks!

I have a bicycle rack that has lights, so I am in the same situation as you. The bikes cover the taillights on the truck. I too wish Ford had a work a round for this, but they don't so I did not renew my Blue Cruise subscription . There is a program called Open Pilot that is better than Blue cruise if you are computer savvy . There are threads on the forum that go into more detail about Open Pilot. Good luck.

It's a standalone device, no computer smarts required. Just need to be able to follow directions.

a small work around to get BRAKE lights
is to use the customer access wire under the hood, just below the air box for the air filter, its used to power the chmsl for toppers and does not change truck settings or tell truck something is different and is only powered if truck is ON or running
i found out while wiring up my topper recently and a guy on here had found the wire that is pretty obscure in literature at ford body builder website

the wire is a small gauge tucked and folded on a harness right next to the fender, near the bolts that hold the air box to the fender on drivers side

I went to OpenPilot recently but last summer I also added a 4 pin harness meant for flat towing the f150 that just plugs in between your brake lights and the stock truck harness; I modified it to get brake and reverse lighting on the LED strip I added to my bike rack.

The harness I bought was a used return on amazon that turned out to have the connectors not pinned correctly, but with a little testing, it wasn't too hard to remove and repin the harness (and add the reverse light wire and a 5 pin flat connector to it).

Here is the harness I used (I payed less than half the current price for the 'defective' returned item):

...before I cleaned up the wiring and added a pin for the reverse lights (..turn signals went away when I added reverse lights for some reason):

I found this wire, but can't get it to work, even with truck running I don't get anything when pressing the brake pedal.

Probably not until Ford updates BlueCruise to work with a trailer.

When I first got Bluecruise on my 21, it did technically 'work' while towing. Problem was, that bluecruise at that time liked to ping pong in between the lane lines, and with a trailer it would induce a dangerous amount of trailer sway. It was a later update that disabled it while towing.

I see the bluecruise logic for Ford - especially when considering liabilities. My issue is with lane keeping assist - which is (for all intended purposes) a hands-on system. Why disable it while towing? It

Mixed up my threads here - sorry. My issue is that my lane centering is disabled when towing. Figured it has similarities to blue cruise issues, and that if anyone figures out how to override the blue cruise limitation same would apply to lane centering.
