Hi all,

Have any of you put a block heater on a 5.0 in an f150? I'm buying my rcsb from a dealer near Atlanta, and there's predictably the truck does not have a block heater from the factory. I got the salesman to ask the service department about installing one, and they acted all weird about it and didn't want to do it. I get the impression they didn't know how to install one and weren't really keen to find out. So, I'll either do it myself, do without one, or get a local service department to do it.

Should be simple enough, it's a stand alone system, not integrated into anything. Only issue would be access to the portion of the block...and the draining of coolant.

Hoo boy, they sure are proud of the heater and wire. It would be nice if the truck already had the heating element installed and lacked just the wire. I'll have to check when I get the truck.

I recently looked into this for my 5.0 too. A mechanic friend recommended a Phillips & Temco Zerostart heater kit. The part number for 2011 and newer 5.0’s is 3100002 and it goes for ~$70 online

It’s a 3/4NPT plug that threads into the block. I haven’t looked into how difficult it is to install yet.

I will be taking this route. They wanted 550 dollars to factory install the heater. thats robbery and not to mention it should be included in Canada.

Did you end up installing the 3100002 block heater yourself? Any special notes on the installation? I will be installing one this fall as we may not garage our '23 5.0 every night this winter due to other projects in the garage.

I think the reason the dealer was perplexed is in Atlanta you would never need a block heater. Must be pretty cold where you are because gas motors usually don’t need a block heater.

Yeah, it gets down to -20 here several times a year. I don't really need a block heater for this truck, I just wanted to make cold morning starts easier on it. It sits in an attached garage at night that doesn't get as cold as it is outside. I work only 1 mile from home, so the engine doesn't really warm up on those trips. I figured it would be good to have SOME heat in the engine before heading to work.

You will just have to take a longer route to work or move....:teehee::teehee::teehee:

When I ordered my truck, I think the block heater, from the factory, was $90.00

My Canadian 23 Lariat has a block heater with no mention of it on the window sticker.
