My 2022 XLT has an issue where the bed cam is a blue blank screen. The weird part is it seems to rarely come back and work fine. Any thoughts on why its very intermittent?

No ideas other than a loose connector or defective cam, but that's definitely not 'normal', mine works every time I select it, which is a frequently.

By any chance can you correlate failure events to conditions such as high ambient temperature (hot cam)?

Good Luck!

Just FYI, the location shown in your sidebar is Colorado

Not sure why I even asked about high ambient  - mine works fine even after sitting in ~100* Texas sun. Sometimes silly things just pop into my old brain.

My bed camera was doing the exact same thing... Then it stopped working completely. You can get a new OEM one for about $50 if you shop around to dealers ... One dealer wanted like $200 (the closest one to me), another about 30 minutes away wanted about $60 (tax and everything) ... Same part number. I used some Ford Rewards points and only had to pay about $5. It's easy to swap yourself, just unscrew the third brake light, one more screw holds the camera bracket in, and disconnect the connector. Reverse process to install.

I rarely use mine but I found that if it’s pointing towards the sun before use, it doesn’t work. Worse in the summer time.

My 21 did the same thing. If the outside temperature was below 60° it would work fine. Then when it would warm up, it would quit working. As others have mentioned, you will need to replace the camera. I replaced mine for around $50 then used forescan to recalibrate it. Have not had any issues since then. If I remember correctly, they had a bad batch of cameras for the 21 and 22 model years.

As everyone else has said replace the camera it's around $50. Mine was doing the same thing on my 22 during the day when it heated up it would stop working and when it was cool or at night it would work just fine. After it was replaced I have had no issues.

I didn't think that the bed camera needed to be reclabrated. what ForScan procedure did you use to calibrate it?

I didn't have to recalibrate mine... Just plug and play. However I replaced a back-up camera on a 2013 F150 EB and I had to use ForScan to calibrate it in order for the lines to show up.

I had to calibrate it for the guidance line. Could also be because I let it go for a couple of years before I replaced it.

Interesting I have never seen the guidance line before. But i have only used the bed cam when parked or to check items haven't shifted while driving.

Only time I get the guidance lines is when I have the transmission in reverse and select the bed camera.

I don’t remember the exact procedure, but I know it was under the gear icon and I had to drive around in a parking lot for 30-45 minutes. Once it said calibration was complete everything was fine.

I don't know that the camera is the issue, I think its software because it happens so intermittently. Either way, the dealer has the truck now.

Apparently the expensiveass grainger warranty and factory warranty don't cover the paint failure.

I also couldnt get the tailgate issue to replicate in front of the service advisor. Bad luck truck.

I stand corrected. I checked for codes in ForScan and had one related to the IPMA that said something about "Rear Camera 2 not Calibrated". So I did have to do the rear camera calibration. It was a two step process in the Service Procedures. First do the LIN "initialization", then the "rear camera calibration". You do have to drive around a parking lot at under 7 or 8 mph, for like 5-10 minutes. I went to an empty high school parking lot. Afterward there was a new center alignment line in the third brake light camera image, and the code in the IMPA was gone.
