I have thought about doing that but want Ford to fix the problem since it is so odd. They have no history of a problem like this on the trucks and really are struggling to fix it for some reason.
True. I did see in the service manual that they can use one side to check the other side. For example, if that light that they replaced is working correctly; they can plug it in to the other side (cant mount it of course), but then if it works then you know you had 2 bad headlights.

I picked the truck up this morning and within 30 seconds of pulling out of the dealership parking lot the "Check Headlamp System" error pops up and stays on until I dismissed it with the OK button. Work order states that a bad pin was found on a wiring harness and repaired. There is still something wrong with this system and I am starting to think they won't be able to fix it. I am curious to get home this afternoon and see what codes are stored in the HCM again. I am hoping when it goes back in again they will just get a field service engineer to come to the shop and look at it.

I think the dealership and Ford engineers are actually breaking more things than they are fixing... DTCs in the HCM 8 hours after receiving the "fixed" truck back and being welcomed by the soothing warm glow of the "Check Headlamp System" message at first startup.

They couldn't get FDRS to program the replacement HCMs and replaced them three times last visit. Fords engineering team eventually got involved and gave them a software package to program it.

Is there a way to show my service advisor that it is wrong? I can't mess with anything since it is a continued warranty issue and the truck is no longer under the 36,000 mile limit and they are still trying to figure out a problem originally reported to them over 100 days ago on the first work order.

They have had the truck there for 89 days over 3 different work orders and I already told them to get me another service loaner and schedule a drop off time.

I can flash it outside of FDRS and they would never know for you to try and see if that corrects it.

I understand why its wrong then. They never flashed it and then it linked up with the wrong software on Fords servers.

It 100% has the wrong software

EDIT. I cant say its 100% the issue. But its worth looking at

This truck has had the headlight problem since new so maybe the software has always been wrong. The only thing I don't understand is why the problem only happens when it is cold in the morning. If it's over 65 degrees, the headlights are perfect every time.

I still have the original HCM I replaced over a year ago I think when you suggested that it was most likely the problem with the headlights if that matters.
