Has anyone else experienced this?

3 hour road trip last night where the outside temperature dropped from about 5 degrees Fahrenheit to -7. Had the automatic thermostat set at 70 and the auto fan on 3. As the temperature outside dropped below zero the cabin temp rose and was closer to 80 than 70. Dropped it several degrees multiple times and little improvement and no fan response. Only when I dropped the temp to LO did we actually feel cold air and the fans kick up to push the colder air around.

I experienced a similar problem and that ended my brief experiment with "Auto" fan control. Now I just bump the fan up or down with the rocker switch and all is right with the world.

Hello, Dave!
Send us a private message with your VIN and the name and location of your local Ford dealer.
I’d be happy to see what I can do to assist with this climate control concern on your F-150. Thanks!

I live in Wisconsin and Ive noticed that as well. On the very cold days cabin temp gets way warmer than what I have it set for in auto.

I am in Manitoba and thee temp right now is -27 C or -16.6 F and what I notice is when the truck has just been started and as it warms up the fan speed climbs and the defrost as well as the floor vents are open, which is great. But once the cabin reaches set temp (20 C) the defrost closes and the front windows starts fogging up. I have to go manual and select defrost to clean the window. If I switch back to auto, this condition repeats. I would like to see that I can select the different vent's that I want to use but still have the temp control by the truck. I have no control as to how much airflow I have coming out of the different vents. Would be great if I could select say, a percentage of air at each vent and still have the truck control the temp. For example 20 % out of the defrost and 80 % to the floor or 50/50 or what ever I need to keep the front window from fogging up.

I have all the zones selected almost all of the time and had it that way last night. The heat seemed to be coming all out at my feet though (until I changed to LO temp and it came out in all zones when the fan ramped up to high). Was warming the truck this morning and the fan was on high to all 3 zones trying to warm up. Didn't drive it long enough for it to get to set temp in the cabin. Will have to watch and continue to experiment with the settings. It behaves differently than my prior 2 F150's 2009/2014 that also had dual zone automatic climate control (where I never had to adjust it as it just worked).

Ford created a case for me and someone called and asked I callback once I schedule a service visit for this. I'm likely to wait until my next oil change and have it looked at along with the recall for the 21S56 LOOSE/SAGGING UNDERBODY INSULATORS which doesn't seem to be impacting me currently.

I'm happy this doesn't seem to be a issue on just my part.

I have also noticed the cabin gets very toasty, even in 20-30 degree weather. On a usually comfortable at a setting of 68-70, but in cooler weather, I am constantly having to turn the temp down. It was 12 yesterday evening and I went from 70 to 65 before I was able to find a comfortable level. I realize that 'comfortable' is personal preference.

I have another cold weather question. It was snowing yesterday and all the nanny bells were going off due to accumulation on the camera's/sensors. The truck constantly thought an accident was imminent. Does the system not recognize there is an issue and turn itself off? I was concentrating on the road, so I couldn't start scrolling menus to turn it all off. Just lived with the beeeeeeeeeeep and warnings till my destination.

Does anyone know where the temperature sensor is? If it's closer to a door, down low or an outside surface? Not including the firewall since the engine is there. It may be colder in that area than where you're sitting higher up in the cabin.

My biggest takeaway from this thread is: It's damn cold where you guys live!

It is in the overhead console up near the windshield. There are four discharge temps sensors as well, but I think the real issue is the proximity to that freezing cold windshield for the cabin temp sensor. My guess is the truck thinks its colder inside than it actually is and the amount of heat it takes to get the very top of the truck up to temp, makes the middle of the truck where we live uncomfortable.

I've had it warn me about the sensors before it slushy weather and pretty sure it disabled the Lane Keep Assist feature at that point. Only ever had the Collision Assist warn me in the drive through line while I pull forward to vehicle ahead. Don't recall more than one warning though when the sensor was covered.

I think there is something to your statement, I have a 22 Tremor and I have to have the damn temp on 62 most of the winter here in WI otherwise it cooks me out. My 18 Explorer, 17 escape I kept it nicely on 68 to be comfortable. Kind of frustrating but I guess if I know it's because of a specific design flaw it makes me feel better about it. I am just cocerned about summer, is it going to work the A/C harder to keep it cool but in that case it would just do the opposite as the window will be hot lol. I have heard that one guy had his sensor replaced 3 times with no fix.

I’m glad to hear I wasn’t imagining this. My 09 Lariat system was much more consistent. I could go months and never change the temperature setting. On this 22 I feel like it’s all over the place.

I haven't used "auto climate" settings since I first had it available in my 2002 Acura Rsx. It just doesn't do what I want. I am much happier manually setting it to what makes me comfortable.

Mine does the sme thing as you all are experiencing. These trucks are crap, nothing works properly especially in the cold temperatures we get in the winter and all this autmation is just problematic. Big regrets on buying Ford. Cheap poorly designed and built crap.
