I don't know...it has always been 'SHIFT INTO GEAR" or "SHIFTING GEARS"...somehow "DIAL INTO GEAR" and "DIALING GEARS" just doesn't work with this old timer. ? ?
I've had plenty of shifters over the years (70+). But, for a daily that is an electronic shifter, it's just dumb now.

I just went out to the truck and played with the shifter. When I tried to slide from Rev. to Park like in the video, mine would not slip into Park, I had to hold the front button on the shifter to move it into Park.

There is a little play on the shifter arm, say about 1/8 of an inch, I can't complain about mine. Works fine.

I have no issue with mine either. I like the chunky look and feel. Mine seems very precise, and quite tight...no sloppiness in mine yet at all(have had the truck 10 days)

As has been mentioned, it’s an electronic shifter now..no more linkage, so there is a different feel, but I’m liking it.

If I remember right, I think Ford asked alot of owners if they wanted a dial in this Gen 14, and the overwhelming majority wanted to stay with a shifter of some sort(console/and or column).

I’m glad there’s still a shifter, I like the look, and feel, and I am not a fan of the dial. But that’s just me.

I was just in the truck/driving, and I made a deliberate point to really notice if my shifter was loose or sloppy. No loose/play in park, and none in drive either. I think the person who said there are differences from early ‘21’s to later ‘21’s and definitely’22’s is correct. Very happy with the quality and feel of my console shifter in my new ‘22.

I might catch hell for this one but I miss the turn knob shifter that was on my Ram. It would leave more room and would not have to drop the shifter to fold out the work surface. At least let us chose when we order. My daughters 19 Fusion has one and my Mothers Explorer has one. They should have put the rotary shifter in the F150 too.

I have broad shoulders, lat me have it !!!

LOL

I've had a few console shift F150's in a row now. This is my 5th.
While I think it is handsome and fits the motif of the interior very well, I must admit that mechanically it doesn't feeeeel robust at all.
I am already trained to treat it both deliberately and gently. I like to think this approach is far below its threshold of abuse and so it should hold up fine.

Only time will tell though.

I think the lay flat shifter feel cheap and I'm expecting it to break if I end up keeping it as long as my past couple vehicles. There's quite a bit of play in it. Ford could have (should have) done a better job with it. Had to cheap out somewhere I guess, unfortunately it's a pretty big thing that can prevent the vehicle from being driven I'd it breaks.

One year in and our shifter is precise and quite tight as well.

And that flat lunch surface (err, I mean WORK surface) is a big plus we regularly use on road trips!

Being able to fold down with a button the shifter and the console armrest to eat or do paperwork is 10/10 feature for me. And so for that I appreciate the shifter.

I also prefer to place my hand on the shifter as I drive some time too so best of both worlds.

I’m not sure that I get it. If it’s electronic, then why not go in 100% and just have buttons? It’s like sticking rabbit ears, complete with foil wrap, on top of my 75” Samsung UHDTV.
Then you would not need the gimmicks for a shifter “prop”. The room for the work surface would just be there all the time.
I do not have issues with mine. It does have some minor slop, but it works fine. It just feels cheap.

I think what some folks are missing is, Ford asked many owners if they wanted a physical shifter, or a knob like Ram, and most opted for the physical shifter still. So I believe that’s why there’s still a shifter. I’m glad there is…it’s a truck, and a truck imo should have a physical shifter. But that’s only my ideas/opinion.

I happen to like the Look of it and feel in my new ‘22. Mine is very tight and precise so far. I certainly understand that everybody has a lil different idea, or preference on this, but I think it’s pretty dam handsome, and I like the chunky look. And if you want to use your work surface, then it just folds down out of the way….I find that pretty cool, and then you have the best of both worlds.

Maybe going forward, Ford will let you choose between a knob, or an actual shifter…then folks can have either.

Reminds me of this quote... “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.”

Funny... two of the options that really pissed me off that I COULDN'T get since I ordered a RCSB were Console Shift and 12" screen.

Since I ordered my truck, I've been reading "horror stories" (okay, maybe hyperbole) about the 12" screen problems and now this.

I also opted out of the sliding rear window which I would LOVE to have (especially in a RCSB) after reading about all the "leaking" problems.

But... I knew I was the GEN14 Guinea pig when I ordered the 1st edition of the new design.

In 10K miles I've had one MAJOR (FREAK) problem that grounded my truck for 3 months and a few minor "glitches" that fixed themselves before I had a chance to make it to the dealership.

Considering that I loaded my truck with EVERY option available (except Block Heater, Power Tailgate and the Sliding Rear window) I think I've done pretty well.

I LOVE this truck! It's amazing.

I don't like the idea of how every shifter can fold down for a gimmick feature that a lot of trucks won't be equipped for.
I've had no issues with it, although I do have the work surface.

My crappy column shifter is headed into the shop for repairs. If you shift quickly to drive, it seems to overtravel. The electric motor in the shifter then continuously cycles to try and move it back to position, but it doesn't actually move the lever. The motor will contiue endlessly until I bump the lever forward. It can do the same for reverse. What a piece of crap. I'll take a rotary shift knob any day over this. I'm not a fan of push buttons since you have to look at them to find the right button. The dial is quick and easy without having to look.
