A deer was hit probably 50 yards down the road from my house on Thursday and the state never got it picked up and now it's the weekend with warm weather. (I live on a state highway)

Just got home from shopping and mmm mmm it's getting ripe and the wind is just right. No open house windows tonight to enjoy the cooler weather.

I remember the police used to keep a list of people that would take a roadkill back in the day if the hitter didn't want it.

Nowadays you can't get anyone to pick them up. Unless it's a buck then they will saw the antlers off. Never have seen much use for that if you didn't kill it yourself.

I only knew this one was there because my buddy happened to drive past and mentioned it.

I'm right on the line with Knox and Fulton county, I think the deer outnumber cattle around here and lots of my buddies hunt (I used too) so no problem getting steaks if I want but these days I prefer a good beef ribeye!

We don't have any deer left in Florida after the great mosquito swarm of 2014.

That sounds disgusting. They're such a nuisance on highways too. My wife had one run headlong into her car at full speed. Was not cheap

Around here they will pick up and I think they have a designated spot where they bury up by the interstate otherwise too many buried wires to randomly dig along the highways. Plus you won't find a state worker around here with a shovel in his hand unless he is leaning on it.

On another note I was hoping that the one hit was the mother deer of the two that has been bothering my dog. But coming home tonight I saw mom jumping the fence in almost the exact spot where the other one was hit.

Think they have been dining on my pears. The tree is loaded this year.

I ate dinner in Abingdon tonight but used to eat at a Mexican restaurant in Monmouth that was next to the maybe high school. It closed a few years ago and haven't been back over there. My sister lives on west main in Galesburg and we would hop on 34 and short drive.

Technically I consider myself a rapatee ite. if you know where that is. lol

I move dead animals out in the open where the vultures can find them. Last time there was a deer on my road that was struck by a reckless neighbor it was a feast for the vultures in the area.

We have our majestic national bird (bald eagles) around here certain times feeding on carcasses and the occasional turkey buzzard.
When you see a bald eagle out in a field chowing down on a dead deer it makes you wonder what it represents.

Came home from an extended vacation last summer. Strongest smell of decomp as I get out of the truck....wow. Wife finds a decomposing bambi in the shrubs near the patio door. Looks like it got hit by a car..and limped back behind the house and expired. I had to pitchfork the body and its one leg fell immediately off. Poor thing.

Well, fingers crossed that dad that showed up last week moves on or makes a stupid move.

He left me a present on one of my bald cypress trees.

here if they are dead in the road, you cannot move them. wildlife officers can ticket you. dumb laws
so we call them to move them, they call county road barn so it may take a day or two

my wife and a passerby dragged a dead momma deer off the road on saturday as it in middle of the two lanes and baby deer was standing on side of road. she call 911 and a wildlife guy was close.

wildlife officer was a real RICHARD/KAREN to her about dragging it out of the traffic way . moral for wildlife officer, dont mess with my wife and critters. ? he will think twice next time
