I enjoy draining perfectly good oil.
It makes me feel like I'm taking the guess work out of the whole equation. Erring very much in favor of that crazy twin turbo torque making lump of aluminum. :)
Living the dream right there!

I never understood the obsession with oil in the age we live in now. The most important thing is just change it regularly. How many engine failures are documented because the owner used Walmart oil instead of some high priced synthetic?

With my last truck with its turbo diesel engine I was very careful about the motor oil I used and would check lab reports and the practices of large fleet operators. Of the many diesel motor oils available the Amsoil was among the very worst and had a poor additive mix.

The best diesel motor oils in the top tier were Pennzoil, Valvoline Premium Blue, Red Line, and Chevron Dell 400. I used the Valvoline oil that I could get at Sears and the local Dodge Cummins dealer.

Amsoil is great in terms of advertising its products but it provides the false impression that you are getting a better performing product.

With the change in motor oils in 2017 the various motor oil testing by independent labs is irrelevant but they are not going to reduce their profits by being honest about it. If a motor oil for a gas engine meets the SAE standard then it is as good as any other motor oil that meets that standard. Nothing magical that Amsoil or anyone else can do with motor oil.

While I used to be an avid believer in Amsoil, I recently saw a report that Pennzoil Ultra Platinum gives better used oil analyses on the ecoboost engines.

Although now that I really look in to it, I'm not seeing the WSS-M2C961-A1 specification listed. It does look like that is just the Ford internal spec that is the equivalent of API SP though.

Pennzoil Platinum does list the correct Ford spec in the TDS. I'm wondering if they've just not gotten around to updating the Ultra TDS.
I keep hearing the ultra meets it they just don’t publish it. I wish we could find this info out for sure.

If your goal is to get to the trade-in... you're absolutely on the mark. However if you want make a truck last, I made a 92 GMC Suburban last 30 years, then what oil you use makes a difference. Synthetic oils have a lower frictional load on sliding and rotating components. It is worth checking to see if the maker says it meets an OEM spec. I used Mobil One on that Suburban. I now use AmsOil and find the words about their advertising curious. I rarely see any by them. I also do bypass oil flow filtration and a very fine main filter.

Agree 100%. Use an oil within proper specs and change it often.

I have been religious about changing the oil in my 2013 KR with a first gen Ecoboost every 5k miles and it runs like a top at 130,000 miles. No special oil either - it has been on Motorcraft 5w30 synthetic blend since day 1. Also, no grocery store gas, but that's a whole different topic.

Routinely changing the oil (and other fluids) is the most important thing for longevity, in my opinion. I'm looking forward to passing my truck on to my son once my 2024 comes in, and hopefully he will get several more years out of it (fingers crossed on the cam phasers, but so far so good).

I did a Blackstone report on Pz UP last year, and I currently have an Amsoil Signature sample in at Blackstone awaiting their attention.

I give a lot of <koff koff> weight to the Project Farm oil "bake-off" series a couple of years back. Hard to imagine a more unbiased, objective review than that dude does. And it was Pz UP vs. Amsoil Signature for the final two.

Would love to see the comparison of your blackstone results.

What?! First I hear of this. I’ve been using it since 2017 on my first Ecoboost. Damn, I recently bought enough PUP at a good price for the next 5 oil changes.
Anyone else have any more info on this?
I’ve also been documenting my oil changes on the Ford App. Hopefully I’m not shooting myself on the foot if I ever have an engine related warranty claim.

If you do experience an engine failure, something quite rare on the forums, it wouldn't be because you are using Pennzoil.

And even rarer to see it reported that Ford denied the claim because of the brand of 5w-30 in the motor.

Is it ok to use Amsoil in a turbo
I have a 2021 F150 3.5 with only 2,000 miles on it i want to switch to Amsoil but not sure because i know the motorcraft oil is good also but i think Amsoil is cleaner in the long run
Project farms did a great oil video. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, Amsoil signature and I forgot the third one were the top three oils

It is rare. So long as the oil manufacturer meets the Ford Specification Ford cannot refuse a claim. On the other hand, if the oil's manufacturer claims it meets the spec but doesn't then you have a claim on the manufacturer because you relied on their statement of meeting the specification.

I have done my last sample with Blackstone. Their ability to get a sample analyzed and out the door is unsat. If you cannot get the results in a reasonable time to make a decision on changing oil, you might as well revert to just changing oil based on mileage alone. ...And to top it off I've been tracking ash content, an extra analysis, and they forgot to do it this last time (and when I asked them, they had tossed the sample). For the present I'm going to use WearCheck. Will let you know how it works out.

I'd be interested in what kind of testing you did...
I referred to independent lab testing of the additive mixes of the various motor oils. The fleet operators have millions of dollar in equipment and more tied up in maximizing up time for their trucks and so they rely on independent oil experts.

Diesel engines are much harder on the motor oil and so the additive mix is critical for minimizing wear. A gallon of motor oil may contain additives that make up 25% of its volume so one is paying for that additive mix and no so much the "oil".

I am old enough to remember when STP additive was sold as "the racers' edge" and people bought and used it in the hope it might keep their engines running longer. The real problem was the tetraethyllead added to gasoline to boost the octane rating. and which was the primary factor in accelerating engine wear. With lead out of the gasoline engine life doubled and an engine with 200K on it is commonplace.
