Is it ok to use Amsoil in a turbo
I have a 2021 F150 3.5 with only 2,000 miles on it i want to switch to Amsoil but not sure because i know the motorcraft oil is good also but i think Amsoil is cleaner in the long run

As long as it meets the Ford spec [ WSS-M2C961-A1 ] it should be just fine...or by their claims, better than.

Both Amsoil OE and Signature have the Ford spec listed as applicable, so you'll be fine. The best thing you can do for the ecoboost turbos is change the oil more often than not, Ford oil life monitor can stretch it out to 10,000 miles, and I believe Amsoil claims 25,000 miles, but in my honest opinion, you'd be better off changing at 8,000 miles. When it comes to engines/transmissions/transfer case, fresh oil is always better, and fresh oil is cheap compared to today's repair costs, so most people who chaing their oil early, just consider it as cheap insurance, to give their truck the best possible chance at making it to 200,000+ miles.

My diesel truck engine had a lot more abuse from the very dirty diesel fuel and the motor oil additive mix was of critical importance. Of all the diesel motor oils tested the Amsoil product was one of the worst and no better than the Wal-Mart brand of oil. So I would not be inclined to use their motor oil in my gas powered vehicles. The best motor oils for diesel engines were Valvoline, Pennzoil, Redline, and Chevron.

What was missed by most people was that engines and motor oils were drastically changed with the 2017 and later trucks and cars. The engines were required to run on lower viscosity motor oil to improve fuel economy. For years prior to 2017 the engine makers and the oil companies put millions of hours on engines and tore them down and checked for wear.

All gas engine motor oils that meets the new API SAE specifications will work equally well. Companies like Amsoil spend a lot of money on advertising to convince people that their products are better than that produced by their competitors and that advertising cost is reflected in the price of the motor oil. You pay more for the advertising hype than to actually get a better motor l.

I have been tempted to switch to full syn but per my service dept and ford corporate that’s an immediate warranty void. Such bs.

If you don’t have motorcraft oil/filter receipts you can be SOL if something goes wrong. Super shitty, but I’ve verified with 3 dealers now and ford direct that it only takes syn blend and If engine has issue they are looking for maintenance records

I use AmsOil. I believe it to be better. I do oil analysis and have concluded that it ought to be changed around 12,000 miles. This is based on depletion of the Boron component of the additive package along with Total Base Number reduction..

Ford cannot require you to use their oil & filters. So long as you use a reputable Oil & Filter and can show you did really change it according to their requirements (or more frequently), you'll win in a legal action. Any dealer that says otherwise is either ignorant or looking to scare you off doing your own work. But it doesn't surprise me that you might hear such gobble-de-gook...

...And By the way to the above... If the "reputable" oil & filter makers assert that their product meet the Ford Spec, and Ford gives you any crap... you can also go back at them because you "relied" on their published information.

See if they will provide you that in writing with the Dealership Letterhead and Service Mgr signature. You’re getting played, my dealership installed 5w30 full synthetic for me on my first change.

You're not serious right? I have had all three of my oil changes done at the dealer, and requested Motorcraft full synthetic 5w-30 each time with nothing but a thumbs up from the service department. I posted pics here a time or two lol.

Oil banter!

It's my forum junky favorite. :)

Whatever flavor I pour in, I just make sure I have 6 quarts and a filter on the shelf for the NEXT oil change. That way I know there's nothing to stop me from doing it again on a whim.

I enjoy draining perfectly good oil.
It makes me feel like I'm taking the guess work out of the whole equation. Erring very much in favor of that crazy twin turbo torque making lump of aluminum. :)

I've been mostly on Amsoil for years.

First when I roadraced motorcycles, all the other high end oils resulted in high wear and constant valve adjustments where-as Amsoil, just stopped that in it's tracks.

Then my Corvette was losing oil pressure at the track in long turns (forgot if it was left or right) and Amsoil cured that.

My wife's Eco-diesel became known on the forums for throwing rods in the early days with the special $14/ quart factory required oil, so I swapped that one to Amsoil and it sounded smoother and now 10 years later, she is still driving it and even Jeep changed the oil recommendation to something more standard after about 2 years of production.

Then my previous truck, a Canyon diesel, on the OEM oil would burn about a quart every 5K miles, and had a very noticeable tone change when I changed the oil. Once I swapped it to Amsoil it quit burning oil and sounded the same even after an oil change (which was smoother and better than the stock oil) and also had good oil analysis at oil change time. The stock oil in that would also have oil pressure dropping on hot TX Summer days once it was worn but that didn't happen on the Amsoil. I sold that truck to a good buddy that owns a boat rental business and uses the heck out of that rig and it runs every day, all TX summer long, hauling full size boats.

So yah, now my Powerboost gets Amsoil.

To be clear, I believe in just sticking with the stock oil change intervals.

Wish I could afford to run Amsoil in my Peterbilts.

While I used to be an avid believer in Amsoil, I recently saw a report that Pennzoil Ultra Platinum gives better used oil analyses on the ecoboost engines.

Although now that I really look in to it, I'm not seeing the WSS-M2C961-A1 specification listed. It does look like that is just the Ford internal spec that is the equivalent of API SP though.

Pennzoil Platinum does list the correct Ford spec in the TDS. I'm wondering if they've just not gotten around to updating the Ultra TDS.
