Hello! My wife and I are seriously considering ordering our first truck.
We've pretty much narrowed it down but the packages are frustrating, so I figure I'll throw it up here to see if you guys know something I haven't figured out.
The must haves:
-Powerboost
-4x4
-Bench seat

The main frustration is we want an XLT with the amenities of the 302a package, but we HATE chrome. The sport package would solve this but it requires the console instead of the bench seat. I'm resigning to getting it anyways, I figure it's easier to get most of the chrome vinyl wrapped than it would be to get aftermarket heated seats, LED headlights, etc...

The other thing I'm undecided on is the tow package, I've read through some of the threads on that here and I'm now leaning towards the normal tow package instead of the max as I had originally planned. I probably won't be towing more than 7,000lbs in the near future so it would be $2,300 more for 1,400lbs of capacity, because with the stupid high/chrome package it requires the $1,400 20" chrome wheels with the max tow...

Please let me know if I've missed something, thank you!

One thing that I can address about the Max Tow, is that the heavier capacity equals a rougher ride. I took a quick detour this afternoon in my truck, not even a mile off-road, just to check the 4X4 function and I thought the doors were going to rattle off. I also have the HDPP and a regular cab, so there’s a lot less empty weight but the truck rides like it has no suspension. Loaded up, I imagine it would be better but up in Alaska, I know there’s lots of unpaved or rough highway, getting what you need and no more GVWR will be best for comfort.

I also can sympathize with the lack of choice in the various trims, they know everyone will want certain options, so they back you into a corner, hoping that you will step up $10k to the next trim level. Otherwise, there would be a bunch of XL trucks with LED lights and massaging seats :p

We're not big fans of Chrome either, so we went the 2-Tone route to lessen it. It gets rid of the Chrome bumpers and we opted for other wheels that we'll likely end up dipping to match the Carbonized Grey. This kept us in a bench seat up front which also was a prerequisite of ours.

I should add, when anyone tries to make an age reference with the "two-tone" option I mention how I'm keeping the truck well into retirement, so I'm just getting prepared!

i hate chrome as well so I went with the Lariat sport. To be honest the had some really nice stx sports at my dealership. If you don't want all bells and whistles I would check that out. I have a bunch of. extra options I will never use as well.

I actually wanted the two tone, but I refuse to pay for the chrome bumpers two times.
since 1976, every pickup I’ve owned was a two tone except one 82 Dodge.
two tone adds just a bit of elegance/class to any truck, and to me all solid trucks just appear to be utility vehicles..
Your (figurativley) single color truck regardless of trim level just looks like a utility truck to me. Absence of any chrome, looks like a construction work truck.
I will at the very least add a wrap to the lower portion of the new truck.
just deciding on the gray that Ford offers, or another, possibly tan to match the interior.
hell, even my all business, heavy duty in all aspects, base Cheyenne with tilt and air, even has an accent color. it just says “as old and ugly as I am, I can still hang with the upper crust”. Heh heh

I haven’t found the max tow ride to be bad. I’m fact my 2021 with max tow is much better than my 2016 without max tow.

go with sport option and you can get 18” wheels with max tow. Not sure on the chrome version...

Sport gets rid of the bench seat unfortunately.

I’m also getting the two tone but I do not believe it gets rid of the chrome bumpers.

Well that will certainly be a pleasant surprise. How did you figure that out before you ordered it?

Dealer told me when I ordered.
It’s also in the order guide somewhere on this site

Found this in another thread, XLT with two tone, seems to retain chrome bumpers.

302a has the chrome package included.
2-tone not available on 300a ( as I recall)
2-tone available on 301a but that brings painted bumpers unless you add the chrome package for $1600.
I ordered a 301a for those perks, but the 302a was just a bunch of stuff I did not want.
301 got me a power seat and the 8” instrument panel along with a couple of other things..

That’s my problem is I want the 302a. I found some more two tone pictures and they all have chrome bumpers.
