I have Amazon music on my phone and it works fine through Alexa.
But when in my 22 Limited I ask Alexa to play music, she says I need a service, and this is also with my Phone plugged into either USB port.
What am I doing wrong?

Also a side question, I log into the phone (while in the truck) the trucks Alexa in the truck seems to take over. If I start playing music on the phone pause it, then get into the truck and restart it, it plays just fine.
I know I must be missing something here.

Any ideas?

I don’t need my phone at all when asking Alexa to play Amazon Music. This is because I also have Ford Streaming service.

Without the Ford Streaming service, I could not get Alexa to play music for me.

But you can obviously stream through your phone if you don't want to enable the truck to stream on its own. You just have to be willing to manage the source when you get in the truck.

If you have Ford streaming enabled, you can even ask Alexa to stream on Spotify verbally.

There's so many ways to skin a cat now with all the overlapping technologies. Can get confusing, admittedly.

So true. I’m also not afraid to admit that it does get confusing the many different ways to accomplish the same goal.

I work with computers and networks so I do understand the above.
Funny thing happened last month though.
While playing NPR the reporter said something about Alexa, and the truck responded wanting me to say a command!

I think there are enough old geeks here to know who Larry Wall (Perl scripting language) is, and remember this:

According to Wall, Perl has two slogans.
  1. "There's more than one way to do it," commonly known as TMTOWTDI (pronounced Tim Toady).
  2. "Easy things should be easy and hard things should be possible".
Ford seems to have grasped the first one... but changed up the second to be more like: "Easy things are hard, and hard things are impossible"

I want google assistant with out having to change the Manufacturer of my vehicle. Same with my cell provider. Why should I be locked into either because I chose to buy a Ford, GM, etc?

As to the OPs question. Ford Streaming. Another service to use the Service you probably already pay for :)

@Snakebitten if you pay for Ford Streaming, do you also have to pay for the Wifi or are they independent?

I pay for Ford Streaming simply because they gave me the drug free of charge for a limited time, and then after I was addicted.....

Except its worse than that because it's a little blurry what the drug actually does and doesn't do? Am I really addicted? If I don't take the next fix (pay the bill) will I notice?

The truck has an AT&T cellular modem that functions whether I give anyone a ¢. (OTA)
I added the cellular modem to my AT&T cellular account and I think I opted for the $200 annual fee because it represented a co$t savings over $20 monthly option. I suspect THAT gets me the WiFi Hotspot function.

Surprisingly that doesn't get me the use of that cellular bandwidth for the very specific set of features that Ford makes available for using its native Sync/Alexa to independently stream services? So if FORD Alexa wants to stream a song, I need Ford streaming. ($10 monthly) But if I want Alexa on my phone to stream the same exact song over Android Auto or Bluetooth through the truck, I don't need Ford streaming, even if I'm using the AT&T Ford modem for bandwidth!

Basically it co$t $10 bucks to be able to have my cake and eat it too. I like cake! But not just to stare at. :)

Well, I didn’t intend to put a hidden message in there, but it seems like what JediNut said could have been construed from my post.

I‘m old and a little bit of a tech nerd, but not a tech nerd from decades past if that makes sense. ?
