Air conditioner operation in electric mode.

I was visiting at the top of a very steep mountain here in western North Carolina. My trip down the mountain was 3.6 miles of Electric Operation. It was a hot day, the AC was running and I wondered what was turning the AC Compressor. Does the AC have an electric motor on the compressor?

Every hybrid on the road has an electric AC compressor. It works like your refrigerator.

According to my 2021 PB service manual the AC compressor has a motor and a belt driven clutch.
So the power source can be the engine or the traction motor.

Edit: the electric power source is electric motor as a generator to high tension battery to DCDC to ACCM.
