The main advantage of the AGM batteries is that they can be placed on their sides, unlike FLAT batteries. In theory they should hold up better with off-road use but in reality the owners report more failures than with the FLAT batteries if you check customers' reviews.

I used AGM on my boats and with my slide-in camper as they could go on their sides and fit into spaces more readily.

Depends on the lithium chemistry. LiFePO4 is pretty much as safe as batteries get and in most cases are suitable as "drop in" replacements for lead-acid (if they have a built in BMS). The 4 cell version has a resting 100% charge voltage of 13.6V.

Lithium polymer or other Lithium-ion chemistries are the ones that like to burst into flames if you look at them cross-eyed. They also have higher terminal voltages so are less suitable to replace traditional 12v lead acid batteries.

Higher power density. Tesla has added LiFePO4 batteries as an option (and standard for their regular non-extended range cars) to get vehicles out the door sooner for customers willing to accept the change.

This is for the traction battery, not the drop in 12v replacement for lead acid. I don't know of anyone using another lithium chemistry as a "drop in" to replace lead-acid.

It makes me wonder why the Feds are not mandating those batteries. Not that I care since I will not own an electric car, but it is an interesting discussion.

Hey all. I noticed a 'clicking' on my truck about every 15 mins. I think it may be the perimeter alarm? There is a drain going on. I did not have ANY issues, but now that my truck is around 4 years old, I opted to replace the stock battery with the Ford AGM 850CCA battery. It DOES fit in the battery tray if you don't have the powerboost model. Just got it installed yesterday. Make sure you get the large insultator if you get the 850cca as well. (which also has a bigger reserve rating)
