I strongly recommend the Viofo A229 Pro. One of the best image sensors on the market currently, especially for the price. Also can do up to three channels (front, rear, interior) which is a huge plus.
Thank you!

Funny you should ask
I have thinkware 2 camera in the f 150
Looking now at one for her explorer
Research time again
My only issue with the thinkware....
It talks to much
Even when I set it to stfu. It still talks to me at start up and shut down

I believe, perhaps incorrectly, that all dashcams use a sensor suppled by one or two companies. Is it true that theres an actual difference in the sensor being used?

The sensor being used is only part of the equation. There is a lot of in house designed processing for the signal that drastically affects video quality between the brands

Agreed , the latest Viofo have the new Sony sensor which is supposed to really do well in low light or night. I have dash cams in all 4 vehicles , 2 are older Viofo. The fancy Korean one just died , and I have problems with the Anker. But the Viofo have been problem free for over 5 years. I'll be getting one of the new Viofo for the PB.
On EDit: Actually I have 5 dash cams , 3 0f which are Viofo. Forgot the one in the cap of the F350 pointing rearward. So its 3 winners from Viofo

Yep! That’s completely true. And I thought about mentioning that in my post, but decided to keep it simple.
You’re completely right.
My only point is that some of the dashcams seem to market themselves based on the sensor, but it turns out that most sensors come from the same semiconductor fab.
Anyway, something to be aware of.

You're right, but I try not to make this point because people think "oh its the same sensor it'll be just as good" when they couldn't be further from the truth.

For those curious, look up the "Vortex Radar" youtube channel, he does a lot of great comparisons of the good dash cams on the market
