Adaptive steering - worth it?!

Getting ready to get a truck. I’m seeing a lot of 2022 inventory but a lot of them don’t have adaptive steering. Is this a worthwhile feature?

On a side note, I’ve read that the mid gen refresh will happen on the 2024s. Do you think it’s worth the wait? What changes do you think they’ll make, possibly the new interface that was delayed?

I personally do not miss or even notice much at all the difference between my 2021 with adaptive steering and my 2022 without.
But I also am someone who doesn't prefer overassisted steering. The numbness of it.
I think this trucks amount of weighted steering is wonderful. Less Buick and more Porsche, if you know what I mean. :)

As for waiting for the next refresh.....
Always a consideration for so many purchases and acquisitions. I'm 65. I'm running out of time to wait for the next before......

These are amazing trucks!

That wouldn't have been me, but I have seen the posts you mentioned.

I aactually keep my hands on the wheel even during Bluecruise. It's just my nature. I love driving, to be honest.

The main difference I have noticed is at low speed, when making a u turn or in a parking lot, you don't have to turn the wheel as much for lock to lock. Otherwise I wouldn't even notice a difference.

Personally, I'm a control freak behind the wheel, so I passed on Bluecruise (not a great deal of approved roads near Boise except for the 84 freeway and legal speeds East of the Boise airport increase to 80 MPH, which means 90-100 in the fast lane. Last place I wanna be with a computer calling the shots) and I rarely use adaptive steering, which in my opinion is a fad more than practical. Others will disagree. It really depends on where you drive. For example, anyone familiar with the Boise area knows some of the fun places (Stanley, McCall, etc.) are North on State Highway 55 and there ain't a lot of opportunities for adaptive anything while negotiating winding roads cutting through forests and rivers. There are other variables as well, such as weather and the condition of painted road lines. Again, assess where you live and how you drive. I have an $80K truck, I want to actually drive it; otherwise, I could just take an Uber. ? Your mileage will vary!

Regarding the 2024 refresh, the direction that Ford has been going with the changes year to year with the current configuration hasn't been in favor of the customer. Perhaps they will bring back some of the deletes that have happened since 2021, but I wouldn't count on it; and if they do, you may be paying dearly for them. E.g.; MSRP on my truck went from $72720 when I ordered to $78765 currently, I don't think they will be getting cheaper in 2024.

FYI, Adaptive Steering is not something you can use or not, it is always enabled if you bought the option... it just changes the steering ratio. Primarily only does anything at "parking lot" speeds. Just means less full turns on the steering wheel to go lock to lock when maneuvering at very low speeds. One additional function is in Tow/Haul mode, is that it reduces too quick of movements to lessen the possibility of putting the trailer into a hazardous sway situation.

Yea you can. I made a nice little small weight out of a metal clothes hanger that was wrapped in black fabric and put 2 small impact sockets on it. Total cost was about $6 for what I call “getto bluecruise” best part is I can use it wherever I want and whatever speed. I’m a professional driver by trade and love to drive but it’s so much less stress to be able to not have to hold the wheel all the time. My hands are still very close by and it gives me the opportunity to be more like a pilot just monitoring the controls and be able to look out the window a bit more. Makes road trips so much more enjoyable and relaxing.

I’m a fan of the lane keeping assist, but only on highways with minimal traffic. I haven’t used it much with my new F-150, but I have used it on RAV4 and enjoy it.
I was on a long drive in September and barely touched the wheel with my hands for several hours. I’m able to adjust my seat so that my knee touches the wheel with enough friction to sense the resistance. My hands are very close the wheel and I find it to be a comfortable drive.
I’m hoping that I can find a similar way of driving my f150. Unfortunately I do not have adaptive cruise which I also really enjoy

Yes, I was thinking adaptive cruise control, but good to know the finer points about adaptive steering. Thanks!

Interesting so how does it work, does it basically always pull the wheel in one direction and then the truck corrects when you get too close to a line?

also which sensitivity do you have yours on? Post a pic if you are able!
