I picked the car up earlier today, dealership said they cleared the codes then took the car back out and were able to replicate the issue by using the self-parking feature. Following that they pulled codes and ended up replacing the steering rack/steering gear and updated some modules. The service advisor wasn't there and the person I spoke to wasn't super knowledgeable so I'm going to call tomorrow and see if I can get some more details.

I did ask specifically if this issue could cause the battery to drain and they called the service advisor who confirmed that it was unlikely the battery issue was related. So I'm not really sure what happened with the battery drain. I'm flying out of town tomorrow so when I get back Sunday I'll check if the battery still has some juice.

I am going to call Ford tomorrow and explain my concerns with the battery stuff, as that ended up being a more significant issue because that can leave me stranded. I'm going to ask if they can extend the buyback period to next week. It's supposed to be 14 days from purchase but so far I've only had the vehicle in my actual possession for 8 days.

Edit: Went out of town over the weekend, when I came back the truck started right up. I had been informed that sometimes the modules try to update OTA and lock up, causing battery drain. I'll assume that in my case that may have been what happened and the dealer pushing the updates through avoided that issue.

So far, no more issues and no errors in any modules as read by Forscan.

Ford customer service and myself settled on reasonable compensation, so I am happy with that. If the truck remains reliable from here on out they've earned a customer for life.

edit: Another week+ has gone by and no more issues with adaptive steering (knock on wood) or any related systems.
