Hey Guys

Is the 502A Stealable? IE Hotwireable??

On my 2005 I had a hidden switch inline with the fuel pump for when I was in more questionable areas. With the 502a and everything pushbutton and keyless, Is the truck even able to be hot wired??

Easy to add the switch in the same way, but if it cant be stolen without a fob, is it even worth the hassle?

Thanks!

They're all stealable. There's nothing special about a 502A versus the rest of the trims/packages. Sure, you may have the OEM alarm system but it's easily defeatable. Honestly, your cat is more desirable than the truck. Easier to steal and much quicker to sell.

I agree with the comment above. It probably matters more the area where you live and how sophisticated the crime networks are in that area. In London for example, they have very profitable organized crime syndicates that steal cars and ship them off to Eastern Europe for resale or parts. In my area they are looking for quick cash, and the cat is the easiest/most profitable short term gain to support their drug habit. However larger metropolitan areas may have more sophisticated gangs; I’ve heard of cars being shipped off in containers to Mexico so anything is possible ??‍♂

Just make sure you have good insurance, mine certainly didn’t treat me like a good neighbor on the value when I hit a deer ?

You can have all the alarms/hidden switches/booby traps in the world - but all it takes is about 30 seconds for some guy with a tow truck to snatch it. And depending where that happens, no one will even question it. ?‍♂

90% of the solution is making sure you lock your car and don't leave the keys in it. That's still by far the biggest cause of vehicle theft. For the rest, get a faraday bag for your key fob, an OBD port lock, and if they get past all of that, it's why you have insurance.

I often see posts about Raptors being stolen. If they can steal a Raptor then they can steal a Lariat. The Raptor is probably. Ore desirable though because of the parts.

Anything can be stolen if someone wants it bad enough.

The ravelco posted above is probably the best solution to prevent theft that is going to be very difficult to bypass.

If you feel better with a hidden switch then go for it.

To answer the op, a Pushbutton start still requires your keys transponder code to allow your vehicle to start and not hot-wired /stolen like those Hyundai/Kia....but there is technology to clone your key code or connect to a PC amongst smarter theives. We install ant-theft systems on top of OEM systems to make it very difficult to 'bypass and quick steal' vehicles. Adding anything extra can help deter the dumb-asses but nothing is 100%.

In many cases, the thief wants to get in and roll in seconds. If he does get in but the truck won't start, he won't spend much time trouble shooting it. Of course they may try towing and you can do some things to slow that down... If you're a 4WD truck put it in 4WD as you come to a stop, then set the parking brake. If 2WD then back into the parking slot so that they can't just pick up the rear end and roll on the front wheels... But regardless, lock and take the keys with you. Remember you have to be lucky every time, they only have to be lucky a few times a day, so get them to move on because your truck is harder than most...

You need a tilt/motion sensor and some C4 to make it not stealable!

And, wire the big battery to the cat.
