Hi y'all! Purchased a "new" 2022 XLT with a 3.5 EB on 4/17, trading in a 2020 Ranger. Quotations on new due to being a former loaner vehicle and when I purchased it having already roughly 1,200 miles on the odometer.
So a few days after I bought the truck I noticed it would smoke a good bit out of the tailpipe whenever I ran it for awhile and then idled. Called the dealer that I purchased it from and was told that if it is in fact an engine issue that their heavy line department has over 3.5 month backlog right now, so I made an appointment at another dealer for a week out. Ended up not waiting for that appointment and took the truck back to the dealer that sold it to me and requested an evaluation from the service manager on duty.
They took a quick look and pulled the oil dipstick; it looked like it may have been overfilled so they had me come back two days later for an oil change to see if that would help....it didn't. It looked like the spark plugs were oiled fouled on one bank causing a misfire so they changed those. They ran the truck a little bit and was still getting a misfire on cylinder #3. The Tech bore scoped the cylinder and noticed scoring on the cylinder wall. Not sure if they have any idea what the root cause was, but it is resulting in getting a replacement engine for my truck at only 1,500 miles. I'm assuming the replacement is going to be a full long block. After receiving that news I called the GM of the dealership and Ford; I cannot say enough about how great this dealership has been and trying to do right by me. The GM is going to put my truck in the front of the line when the engine gets in and has been in communication with the parts manager to ensure we get a replacement engine in as quickly as possible, in fact they should have the new engine in at the time of writing this. Between the General Manager of one of the busiest Ford dealers in Texas calling me 3 times to give me updates, prioritizing my truck in their Heavy Line department, and putting me in a brand new 2023 loaner they will have all my future business.
Now for Ford Customer Service...gave them a call after receiving news about needing a replacement engine and they opened a case. Was told my case manager would be reaching out within the next 24 hours...that was 6 days ago.
TL;DR 2022 3.5 EB needs a replacement engine due to scoring on cylinder #3 at only 1,500 miles. Dealer has been great; Ford has been silent.
