I sold my 2017 f250 KR to down size to F150. What a mistake. . My transmission Learns but the wrong direction. My engine is misfiring at idle and under load. Dealer says they feel the misfire but since it threw no code they had to wait. They say the tranny was still learning at 3000 miles. Did nothing. Going back Thursday to make em fix that misfire code or no code
As far as the transmission I think Ford will eventually fix the software or just buy Toyotas new 10 speed. Love this truck so hopefully Ford fixes it

What have you been using for gas? Premium should help, and keeping the upper gears locked out so you have some rpm’s in your corner under load will also help with the shudder/misfire.

A lugged 3.5 with 87 octane will probably misfire fairly often, at least that’s been the general consensus on here.

A good tech will need to look in mode 6 for anything relevant, as your issue is fairly common and generally won’t trigger a DTC.

Take it to another dealer. I give a dealer one chance to fix something, then I take it somewhere else. Sometimes the tech at a dealer isn‘t well trained or is sloppy, sometimes a dealer tells their people not to investigate beyond pulling codes, etc.

Are you sure it is misfire? My 3.5L always has somewhat of a rough idle. It seems like they are trying to keep the idle RPM too low, maybe for fuel economy. It also has a shudder that feels like misfire when it tries to hold a gear too long rather than downshift. Very annoying. Sport mode helps a bit. None of this solves your problem, but I doubt your dealer can do anything about it. Ford needs to update the software, but I'll bet it comes at the expense of fuel economy so they won't bother.

This engine seems to miss more in hot weather. Been over a hundred here in Texsas and it shakes pretty bad at lights. Without throwing codes, I told the dealer they had to hook up to their computer and drive it to find out which cylinder had a problem. I think most likely the coil or the boot may be cracked. The plug could be bad also
They have to work it out. They just don't want to spend the time to do it. 2000 miles it ran smooth but the last 1000 been crap. If it was good once it can be good again

Really? I'm on this forum quite regularly and I've not noticed this to be a general consensus nor a fairly common issue.

Go for the scan you will know what's the problem and consider inspecting the coil and plugs as they might be the root cause of the problem. It appears that the issue could potentially lie with the plugs.

Here is a mega thread on another forum, 54 pages of people who have been down the same road, myself included:

https://www.f150forum.com/f129/shudder-jerking-issue-when-accelerating-508814/

Many have done their own replacement/swapping of plugs and coil packs......from the research I've done, and on my own 3.5, running premium gas and keeping the RPM's higher than stock mapping wants it by gear lockout/drive mode has alleviated the issue, and I get better gas mileage also.

The dealer should not send you packing if your issue is that severe that the truck is shaking at stoplights. If it is misfiring, rest assured there is evidence supporting it in mode 6, even if a steady check engine light/DTC aren't present. You are absolutely right that they just don't want to dig deeper.

That’s interesting. Like others, I’d want to eliminate a gas issue. Possibly you got a bad tank with H2O? I’d go to a reputable gas station fill with premium and add 20 oz. of Techron. See if that clears it up. For what it’s worth I only run premium when towing and engine runs good on regular 87. Good for the ecoboost that is. If you’re expecting silky smooth like the 5.0 it’s not going to happen!

The 10 speed in 2019 Ranger has been flawless. Dealers have getting really hard to deal with for a while. We the customers are the ones paying their paychecks and they seem to forget this. I hope they can find jobs once we quit coming to them and they all get laid off, not really.

Waiting on Ford. Dealer doing nothing. No code they are stumped. Ford give me a case number but have heard nothing. I went to get my truck from the dealer since they are doing nothing but they wanted the case number so they could follow it up. Can you believe, rough idle becomes a nightmare. Hate to see a real problem. Wishing I had my 17 KR f250 back.
