I've had the truck for ~2 years. At the 1 year mark, I replaced the factory H6 battery with an H7 due to some low battery / hibernation issues. Ford dealer tested battery as OK, but still kept happening. The new H7 worked great...for a year, and now I'm seeing similar issues. I checked some data with my obdlink mx+, and my current state of charge is at 61%, voltage at 14.5V, and current at 2amps. I have an actual battery tester ordered (topdon BT200) to check the CCA and voltage.

I know battery issues have been common on the gen14, but I thought replacing the battery usually resolved them.
  • Are there still charging issues or parasitic draw?
  • Is this there any TSB to update the battery manager?
  • Will upgrading to an H8 do anything more?
  • Should i change the charge limit to 95% via forscan?

Same concern on 22 F150 V8 with Battery not charging up a full 12.9 volts and keeping it that way. You can always disconnect the BMS tab on the - Negative battery post and see how it goes.?

The question I have for people having battery issues is this- do you still have the Auto Start/Stop on on your truck?

If you read the hundreds of Ford battery problem posts you will find only one solution that will work 100% of the time. It is to use a battery maintainer plugged into household current with the truck.

Regardless of the shortcomings of the Ford BMS the battery maintainer will take care of the problem.

Please not that owners of Chevy/GM, Toyota, and Ram pickups are not reporting these problems on the forums. This is exclusively a Ford problem.

I wasted a lot of time and money trying to deal with Ford's battery problems before I bought an extension cord and a battery maintainer. For me that is part of the price to be paid for owning a F-150 pickup.

Battery tester came; showed battery as bad. <1 year old from Costco. Took it back and used prorated refund towards an H8. I guess we'll see if that helps.

Next time you need a battery consider an EverStart Platinum from Walmart (very cost-competitive with Costco and the 48-month warranty is full-value, not pro-rated).

Yeah, I'm not renewing my Costco membership.

LOL, BTDT, I paid for it once just to be able to check-out their 'highly rated' hearing aids, then ended-up not buying from them. Not a fan of 'fee-membership buying clubs'.

This is interesting. This is the first post I recall where a new non-Ford battery exhibited the same problems. I put in a NAPA catalog main battery on mine 4 months after delivery, three years ago, and across three Wyoming winters and have had zero issues since. I've not had to use a trickle charger or any other supplementary charging method.
