Doesn't a power tailgate allow one to use it as if it were just a normal damped tailgate?
I mean you can operate it manually if you prefer?

But, but...he paid for for a power, fob-operated tailgate!

I've before expressed my frustration with incessant gadgerty that has a way of becoming maintenance liability over the long run. These guys are having problems with trucks that are 3-4 y/o, not 8 or 10...and Ford can't fix 'em. When I traded my '06 F-150 on a '16 Tundra (10 years and 164K) the dealer was amazed that everything still worked. My response then was "what would be the point of paying for features and not have them work". My attitude hasn't changed, and when I move the Tundra on (asssuming I actually get the ordered F150), everything will work (currently at 188k).

I'm obviously in the minority here, but I'd much rather spend the same money on higher quality ball-joints, u-joints, transmission shift solenoids, etc. than on a remote-release tailgate, heated seats (and I'm in VT), lane-centering, adaptive cruise, power rear window, trailer backing assist, 360 cameras, thermostatic climate controls, or push-button start. But I had to get 'em all in order to get my bride a comfortable, adjustable passenger seat. Give me power windows and door locks, A/C, cruise control, hands-free phone connection, manual adjust tillt wheel...and comfortable seats, and I'd be prefectly happy for another 10 yr/200k.
