I know there are comparisons in various posts, but trying to consolidate for anyone who is on the fence like I am.

I usually order a loaded Lariat 502a, however with the recent package and option changes, I may need to go Platinum to get what I want…..or switch to the dark side and go with a GMC this year. Platinum is $7k more with comparable options, so that bites. GMC, you can get a loaded diesel and be way under a Platinum…Lariats seem to be getting cheaper in value.

Lariat 502a.
-No BAP on 157”……seriously? Am I the only person to run a tool box and still want a little bed room Left?
-No lower LED fog lights, apparently they are the old school XLT lights, also missing the LED halo running light
-No Bed camera. Not a huge deal, but was used several times.
-No color matched bumpers. I’ve always done chrome, but as I want to switch, finding it’s no longer an option.
-No leather, now Active X synthetic….which many say is decent.
-No gloss black wheels

Platinum 702a
-includes power running boards.
-2kw power. I’d rather have the space.

One more for your list:
- 502A has no moonroof whilst the 702A does.

Only reason I've originally ordered a 502A and not a 601A or 702A :)

ps) one more: 502A does not have the plastic (fake?) louver insert on the hood.

Your first bullet point on a 502A was an absolute deal breaker for me and actually annoys the F out of me... There is no logical reason why we shouldn't be able to get a 157" WB with the BAP on a Lariat.... My hand was forced because of this and I had to go to a Platinum which then includes a moonroof which I would rather not have. I'd prefer to have the extra payload. Buying a truck with a 5.5ft bed makes no sense to me personally.

This is a good breakdown for folks tho and many will appreciate it. I know at one point I would have been one of them as I was actively trying to figure out all of the differences between the two trims..

Fortunately, you can still add the roof for $1500 though

I think it’s absolutely crazy that they’ve restricted the BAP to the smallest wheelbase. Honestly, a lot of the options and packages don’t make any sense at all. If you want to get really frustrated, go build and Price a GMC, seems like you get so much more for so much less, including their little baby diesel. I’ve been Ford forever, and plan to continue it, but for the first time in a decade, I can’t believe it’s this tough to get what you want on an order.

I broke down between the 2 and honestly the fog light are 400$ to replace if I read right and moonroof is still available for 502a for a price ofc.

The retractable foot rails are not worth it in extreme cold weather as they get iced over often from my experience.

For me the 502a is way better of an option than the 702a. Everyone has their own needs and wants tho.

I 100% agree with you... Its my biggest gripe with Fords configurations. There is one major problem with choosing a Lariat that is a deal breaker for me and forced me to begrudgingly order a Platinum though... You cant pair the BAP with a 157" wheelbase. I'll never understand why this is. The only thing that makes sense to me on why its like this is its purposely set up like this by Ford to force people to buy more Platinums. Its very frustrating.

I think that’s exactly what they did, but I have a feeling that we as consumers will eventually get that last laugh if sales slow. I unfortunately was in the same boat and decided to go with a platinum however, I definitely am not looking forward to the powered steps for the weather reasons. It cost me significantly more for what I used to get exactly spec out on the lariat. I’ve never liked the platinum trims, I’ve always been able to get a lariat and put everything that I wanted on it until this year. One of the other issues that really sucks about this whole thing is they’re taking some of the most inexpensive low cost items for them and cutting them and just devaluing the trim levels so much. I wish there was a way to get some feedback to Ford.
