2024 Tow Mirrors

just installed tow mirror on my 24. ML3Z17696CA. As a few have said. You lose side and front camera and the only way to fix this is a camera swap out of the Oem units. Just want to confirm this and make sure there is no forscan or FDRS program to fix this before I start ripping stuff apart…

It is pretty simple to swap the cameras. If you start messing with the calibration of the cameras, they will get messed up. You may need to activate the marker lights through forscan.

Did you ever get the telescopic feature to work? Looks like you don’t have a plug for the button same as me.

No I have not yet. Waiting to figure out what harness is needed

thankyou ... i did turn on markers.. has anyone looked into just ordering new cameras or is this just way to much money.. i only ask this because i will not leave my tow mirrows on... i going to swap them back and forth only when i tow.. and i dont tow my toy hauler that much..

i ended up getting 2 new cameras from ebay.. cost about 350 so i didn't think that was bad sense the dealer wanted 750 for them... installed them and everything work great... i have the 2 old cameras from the tow mirrors... have no idea what year they would work on but I' can tell you they don't

work on a 24.

I just upgraded to 2024 PB XLT. Chrome capped mirrors too! I wasn't worried because the dealer was going to take the 22 tow mirrors with cameras off the trade and put them on my new truck. They called me this morning that, when they put the two mirrors on, Blue Cruise started throwing a ton of errors. So I told them to put the original mirrors back on and that I would return the original mirrors for the trade and keep the two mirrors.

Based on this thread, it seems "all" I have to do is crack open the chrome capped regular mirrors (no loss there) to get the cameras, and put them into the tow mirrors. I installed them on the 22, I'm sure I can do it on the 24 also. So glad I found this post!

Go change your fold value back. I played with this on @uapilot's truck.

So I have been scrubbing multiple threads gathering what is needed for when all my parts arrive for my 24 XLT 302a to add tow mirrors with auto fold and telescope. I am following what you have here, just wondering if you could provide clarification on what you mean here with callout of (also needs APIM control enabled)

Just getting all my ducks in a row for when the harnesses arrive.

As a note, I have the ML3Z17696DA mirror kit with power fold/telescope along with the new switch housing with telescope.

I also ordered the harnesses RL3Z-14631-E and RL3Z-14630-L with corresponding new mem lock/unlock switch as well as window/mirror switch that has folding.

Running into an issue with my 24 when it comes to programming. Installed the platinum harness along with power fold extent town mirrors and swapped over my cameras.

Did the DDM and PDM configs for both power fold and extend and am not getting things to work.

It appears my as built in APIM already had power fold set to enabled, but not auto fold,
So I do enable that and it shows in the menu.

the most “reaction” I have seen so far is after setting door modules for power fold is that when the door is open and puddle light it on, I hit the fold button on the door switch and the puddle light will momentarily go off like something is tryin to happen.

tried multiple options for these from 0 to 3, still no luck

feel like I’m just missing something. Worked last night on install, eventually just did restore to as built for door modules to start fresh today.

Please let me know how that goes. I know some people have figured out the power fold on the standard mirrors, but not the tow mirrors. The dealership said I could just buy a wiring harness and the switch and I would be good to go. If I can just get power fold working I would be happy. It sounds like the wiring harnesses from the dealership are extremely expensive though. They also told me just to install the switch and the mirrors and see what happens. I found that interesting as well. But I doubt we would be that lucky.

And just to be clear when the parts department was looking up the wiring for me they said I definitely needed the wiring for the telescoping, but when it came to power fold he was wondering if the wiring was already there. So he told me to purchase the switch and the power fold mirrors and see what happens. I don't know if that includes programming. I remember years past power fold would work automatically but that was on my Lariat not an XLT.

Edit: unless you have a Lariat then you obviously don't need to worry about power fold. Mine is an XLT. I'm here in Michigan so this is a spring project for me.

Do you recall what you had to do to get it to work? It appears my as built already had power fold mirrors enabled as an options which was odd. Running out of ideas here lol

Have you tried manually folding leaving them folded and hit the button? This will reset the mirrors. When I upgraded mine only one would fold. I had to go in forscan and turn fold off and back on then they worked. Mine is a 22 so not sure if more things have changed.

I am honestly starting to think the mirrors I got from a dealer as open box on ebay are not actually power fold and telescope. They claimed to be the kit ML3ZA1769DA, but I striking on most every setting in forescan which has me wondering if they are just manual fold extend. They have a lot more pins in the mirror connector than my factory mirrors, but I really have no way to confirm beyond that.

That would suck if that’s the case. Do you know anyone with power fold mirrors that would let you try one or test yours on their truck?

This maybe a dumb question have you tested the switch? Maybe it’s bad.

Switch should* be good, orders that and the plate for extend button new from Livingston ford. Weird thing is when I have it programmed hitting the button for fold causes puddle lights to momentarily turn off when the door is open, it’s like it’s recognizing the button press but the mirror didn’t know what to do with it. Tried manually extending the mirrors too to see if the telescope button would bring them back in, but no luck. May ask around for someone nearby who has folding mirrors, or may end up returning these if I can figure it out.

annoying I spent all the money and time one new harness lol those were expensive and huge PITA to install!

Have you tried to find a wire diagram for them? Sounds like maybe pined wrong or for another model. Sounds like the light should be to the fold. I learned when doing mine Ford is useless on any help
