Hi all, first post. I lurked here for a while before pulling the trigger on my 2024 PowerBoost Lariat. I was hoping my first post would be glamor shots of the new ride, but unfortunately mine has major issues out of the box. I bought it on the week of July 8 from a dealer a few hours from me. They had the build I was hunting sitting on their lot and quoted a fair price over the phone. My wife drove it the 200 miles home without issue. My first drive was a quick trip to the bank. After climbing a small hill, I started hearing a howling noise under any sort of engine load. I initially thought it was the electric motor, but after a couple miles it popped "powertrain malfunction, low power" and the check engine light. The check engine was for low boost pressure. It's been sitting ever since with less than 300mi on the odometer.
I took it to the local dealership for diagnosis a week later (they were booked up). I confirmed zero boost on the boost gauge on the way to their shop. They replaced a blown BAV seal and cleared the codes, but the truck is still not building boost. They were unable to operate the valves on the turbo through the computer and have determined that it needs a new turbo. The turbo is on backorder until end of August.
I'm not here to complain or blast Ford. I love this truck and just want (and need) it back as quickly as possible. I trust Ford will make it right, but I need advice on how to keep things moving. They don't want to offer a loaner or rental while we're waiting on parts, so I'm without a vehicle. The local dealership has asked Ford to expedite the turbo. I'm not convinced it's a bad turbo. I've scoured this forum and others; turbos don't seem to be a common failure point, but electrical issues are. I just don't want to wait over a month to try a new turbo just to find out it was a wiring harness all along. I'm already two full weeks without the truck, 6 more isn't going to work for me.
So, my questions to the group:
Am I crazy to think this isn't a turbo issue?
Is there a way to convince Ford to prioritize my truck and get the parts shipped sooner?
Would you push for a buyback at this point if late August is best case scenario to get it back?
Thank You
