Purchased a new 2024 Ford F150 Lariat less than 2 months ago. The sales manager called me yesterday to inform me the truck had hail damage at plant. Truck was repaired before shipping to dealer. Giving me a $1,500 rebate check. Any thoughts on this?

Supposedly it doesn’t show up on CarFax.

I purchased it 2 months ago. Looks fine except for one flat paint spot on roof. Also has a little overspray on windshield and side window.

Fight for more off. Cant hurt. Have them fix the paint. Fix now or you have it as it is. If you’re ok with it still try for bigger discount.

I'm surprised they contacted you. I got the $1500 off when I picked mine up ~2 months ago. I did find one or 2 tiny dents on the roof, which no one sees anyway. I'd definitely take the $1500 !!

If they did a good job I’d probably still take it but I’d try and get more off like the said above :). It sucks but if it’s fixed right, then meh wouldn’t sweat it too much.

If there’s overspray on the windows, that’s some amateur hour shit. I would be wary that they cut other corners during preparation; which would be 90% of the job for a good shop.

$1,500 off would be fair if the MSRP was like $21,500 but these trucks are so damned expensive these days that $1.5K is a pittance. Whether it shows up on a search, or not, if you plan on keeping the truck for more than a few years; a bad paint repair job will start to show.

I’d also be pretty wary about the supposed explanation. The hail repair story could be a cover for the car being damaged during transport. All the time, the hydraulics fail on transport trucks or operator error causes roofs to be damaged. Ask why only the roof was damaged and not the hood which I think is either thinner, or at least less stiff because it doesn’t have the corrugations that the roof has. I would at least have them remove the headliner so that you can see if there’s any hidden problems. As far as I’m concerned, if I didn’t see the damage before the repair; the whole roof could be stoved in and holding 30lbs of Bondo!

Even with the best possible repair, it’s rarely going to be as durable as the factory paint. I would walk and order a new truck. Anyone who works at the dealership would probably do the same unless they were only going to have the truck for a year and then got a steep discount.

Good luck and follow your gut, don’t let the dealership just tell you what you want to hear!

I just missed that month when the hail damage hit some brand new trucks when mine was built. I would not be happy.

If it was repaired by Ford at the plant then I would guess it will not show up on Carfax as it had not been delivered. Rework on vehicles is not uncommon, maybe not for hail, but many other reasons.

At least you got a rebate. Ordered a rcsb December of ‘23. Built 2/28. Hail storm in KC MS March 13. Both Ford corporate and dealer assured me my truck was not damaged. Truck sat in a parking lot for 4 months in KC - “quality assurance” they told me. Truck shows up 7/3, guess what, hail damage, and I’m almost positive it already had PDR. Neither Ford nor the dealer will acknowledge the hail damage. Needless to say, I walked away. It sure feels like the patients are running the asylum. Looks like I’ll be joining a Silverado forum. Good luck everyone.

I definitely would have not purchased it if I would have known. I have had it for 2 months and put leveling kit and tires on it so I guess I will live with it. Very aggravating was not made aware at time of purchase. It was an out of town truck they delivered to me.
