2023 Limited Running Board approach deployment change?

For the past couple years when I approach my truck the running boards deploy, a couple weeks back they simply stopped. They deploy when I put my hand on the handles but I liked the automatic deployment. I even change the battery in the fob to see if that was the cause. Did one of the recent SW updates remove the proximity deployment for the running boards? Not sure why it would change. Thanks!

My ‘23 Lariat has done the same. It doesn’t do it always but almost always. Just started a few weeks ago.

Wouldn't be surprised to find that the BMS considers your SOC below some threshold that triggers the altered behavior of approach features.

I'm an optimist by nature, but have a built-in exclusion for factory authorized service personnel.

There's no doubt some absolutely fantastic folks that do such for a living. I just fear that you aren't statistically very likely to luck into one.

Dumb question but did you double check the setting for it? For some reason my running board setting reverted back to standard. I like having it set to extended so when I leave the truck the running boards stay down longer. This randomly changed back to standard out of the blue last week. I don't use proximity entry so I can't comment on that.

That it is. If you're not a PowerBoost, upgrade to an AGM H8 and reset the BMS. That should restore your functionality.

FWIW, my factory battery only lasted 4 months before failing, and it was a FIGHT to get the dealer to replace it. They kept saying it tested good until i told them i was just going to put a new battery in it out of pocket, then suddenly it finally tested bad

Thanks so much, I had to look up the acronyms but got it. Chatted with service today, described the symptoms including your inputs (thanks) they said bring it in you need a new battery and its still under warranty, so I find out on Wednesday. As I think back I did wonder why I started seeing the battery saver message that was not normal at about the same time the running boards stop the approach deployment. I was aware early on, others had lots of battery related influences. Me TOO.

Again thank you so much for your insight, you were spot on. Took it to the dealer today they replaced the 12v battery and pushed some SW to modules that were still showing intermittent draw post new battery install. The list of SW update to modules were BCMC, WACM, PDM, PSCM, IPMA, DC/DC now I have no idea what those are but hopefully it might help others. Overall super positive experience, timely and it is fixed, when I walk up the truck the running board deploy as the used to.

Well it is the closest one to use and I actually appreciate my service writer who has a dry sense of humor so my material makes him laugh. and remember when I mention the elements you pointed out, his immediate response was bring it in for a new battery
