Running board retracting suddenly

The driver side running board suddenly retracts after opening front driver door. Last time it happened it almost caught and dragged my foot under while stepping out of the truck. Has anyone seen this issue before ? Not that this happens every time, but had this happen couple of times already. This is dangerous and can get one injured.

They will retract if the motor senses an object, or resistance (corrosion, dirt, etc.). The first thing I would do is just look under there to see if there is anything obvious, and maybe hit the pivot points with some lube, and see if it helps.
If it’s retracting just because the door opened (i.e. someone else gets out, they are extended for several seconds and then it retracts as soon as you open the door), that’s a different issue than it just going out and right back in.

Mine had the same issue, replacing the motor seemed to fix the problem.

Mine haven’t done this for months now (knock on wood). Did you take it to the dealer for replacement ? Was it covered under warranty ?

Yes and yes. They went straight for the motor apparently. Not sure why. But it worked (so far).
