Now I know why Ford recommends replacing the evaporator if the temperature sensor malfunctions.

If the software patch doesn't fix it, there's nothing short of replacing the faulty temperature sensor that would stop it from freezing up.

Just my opinion, of course.

I have a 2022 Powerboost and have sat or driven for many hours at a time with the temp set to 68F. Gulf Coast heat/humidity.

Going to start the return trip home tomorrow morning from Jacksonville Florida to Galveston. About a 15 hour drive. I'm convinced that the only difference in a truck that freezes up and one that doesn't is either a faulty temp sensor or a faulty HVAC component that functions based on that temperature sensor.

The unfortunate part of the equation is Ford supposedly buried that temp sensor with the evaporator. Not easy to access.
We just got back home tonight to JAX from NYC. Was stuck on the tarmac for two hours due to the lightning. Too bad we can't high five and check out each other's PBs before you leave town. Another time maybe. Safe travels!!

just as a FYI, they update this again and the new TSB is 24-2168. It's just a software update to the PCM and HVAC modules. this was issued in late May 2024, and is all ICE variations of the '21 - '23 F-150's

If they are replacing the evaporator will that fix the issue with the temp sensor as well?

From what I understand, replacing the evaporator IS how you replace the temp sensor. Although it's crazy that you would have to do that. The evaporator isn't faulty.

Same thing happened early on with the leaking Exhaust Heat Exchanger on the Powerboost. Ford would replace the entire section of the exhaust pipe if it leaked.

The culprit was a $5 plastic tube:

But until Ford made that part available separately from the "assembly", they replaced the plastic tube with everything you see here:
