I am taking my truck to get its first oil change at 5,000 miles in a couple of weeks. While my F150 is at the shop, I am going to get the technicians to try to address the issues I am having. Please let me know if any of you have had these issues, taken your truck to dealership to fix these issues, if they were able to fix these issues, and if so what they did to fix it. My wife's 2020 Expedition has NONE of these issues and has been trouble free since we purchased it new in 2020 (aside from a backup camera recall and broken drink holder replaced under warranty).
2023 Ford F-150 XL SuperCrew 5.0 V8 2wd (102A High)
1) Brake Click - Happens between 16 - 45 mph when pressing the brake; clicks if the truck coasts and slows on its own below 16 mph whether the brake is pressed or not. Feel it in the pedal; sound seems to come from under hood on driver's side possibly around the master cylinder or that area. Started happening occasionally at 800 miles on the odometer, but now happens pretty consistently. Sometimes its very audible, sometimes its more subtle.
2) The truck randomly loses connectivity to FordPass - Causes these observed issues: a) FordPass will not remote start the truck (and shows location stuck where connection failed); b) Alexa stops working; c) Navigation works, but does not know compass directions within Navigation (even though the info display on the instrument cluster does display direction); d) Cannot access Connectivity Options on Infotainment display. Pulling Fuse 32 for 10 minutes helps but not always so I quit doing it. Usually (but not always) fixes itself overnight when the truck can connect to my home WiFi network. After experimentation, I believe the cause is just having a weak cellular signal, but instead of reconnecting like cell phones do, the modem just hibernates. That may not be the cause, but I've noticed it happening when my cell phone has one bar or no bars of signal strength (AT&T).
3) Trip Odometer - Randomly stops working; Displays EXTREMELY incorrect MPG and EXTREMELY incorrect miles driven (see pictures); I suspect this is caused or related to #4 Reboot issue below. It really sucks, because I like to keep track of my MPG and miles driven. To clarify, I reset both Fuel Economy and Trip 1 with each fill-up. I probably had driven around 150 - 200 miles (guess) since the last fill up when these pictures were taken.
4) Infotainment Freezes/Reboots occasionally at Startup - This issue happened A LOT the first week I had the truck. I chocked it up to being new and largely, it has resolved itself. But I still have a random Freeze then Reboot on startup and I really think this causes or is related to #3 above.
Overall, I love this truck. It rides great, has all the features I want, none that I don't. Just a good basic truck that is actually well equipped and TONS of room. And the fuel economy is AMAZING. I drive about 85% in town on surface roads and I regularly get around 20 to 22 mpg with a V8! The 2020 Honda Pilot I had previously only got slightly better gas mileage at 22-24 mpg.
