Seeing conflicting reviews for tunes for the 2023 5.0. Who has one and what is the most effective one to buy? Hoping to get one that I don’t have to send in my ECU.

I was running Livernois tuning on my 5.0 for a while. As far as the most effective one to buy depends on your feeling about the tuners. Livernois and OZ seem to be favorites, but there are others. I went with Livernois primarily because they were one of the first, if not the first to break the encryption that doesn't require sending out your ECU. That and they have a pretty decent reputation from my research. That's not to say OZ or the others aren't just as good, but at the time Livernois was it for me...

The Livernois process to install a tune is pretty simple. It's basically a two step process where you connect the programmer to the OBD2 connector in the vehicle. This step puts the ECU in a state to accept the tuning. Next, open the hood, disconnect the three large connectors from the ECU, connect the programmer to the ECU and battery and upload the tune. My only concern with the process you don't disconnect the battery when you remove the three large connectors from the ECU. They do tell you to remove the inner most connector first, then the middle, then the outer most connector. Still, my gut tells me to remove power before messing with the computer :)

I hope this helps.....

Thanks - what’s the power gain for the Livernois?

I had oz on my 16. I can't vouch for how much power was gained but it drove really well after. I had also moved from 3.30 gears to 4.10 at the same time, so that is why I can't comment on power. Sorry, I can't contribute much other than they're really smart and it was very smooth and would chirp the wheels going into second and third if I was driving hard just to test it. I'm more of a slow driver, though.

You can find power gains on their site and YT videos showing dyno runs. Honestly, for me, 3K RPM or less, where I normally drive, snappy throttle response is about all I noticed. The improvements are in the higher RPM range. Which even in stock form is where the 5.0 achieves max HP and TQ. I think I went 0 to WOT throttle once or twice, but when I saw the RPM go beyond factory red line I never did that again. As for the transmission shifting, I like the sequential shifts, but not the other side effects I had. I worked with Livernois to "fix" the shifting, good communication, great experience. In the end they said it is what it is. In all fairness, I was only after two things, disable cylinder deactivation and sequential shifting I just couldn't look past the shift side effects.

There is only so much you can do to the 5.0 in stock form. Now, add forced induction and the 5.0 really wakes up. That's why the 2.7/3.5 EB guys see bigger gains than the 5.0.

I have Livernois tune in my 22.
Sequential shifting is much better.
With 93/94 octane, there is a noticeable improvement in power.
Having no C/D with my Corsa exhaust is a big plus as I was tired of flipping to sport or tow mode.
Now, if I hammer it while in sport mode, tranny shift point is a problem but it doesn't bother me as I almost never use it.

Coupled with a pedal commander, it's plenty powerful and feels sporty.
Without the pedal commander, throttle response is weak IMO.

interesting to hear on the c/d and corsa, I too have the same exhaust and that would be the only reason I want to purchase a tune. While noticeable its live-able which is surrprising.

Being a 2023 you can get a tune for E-85 and get the most power and torque gains really possible with just a tune. Or if you want one for 91 or 93 octane. Your 5.0 will respond to just using 93 and if you just use sport mode CD is not a issue. It's a good thing you don't get more tune than you really want or need. A tune will cost close to $900.00 or more plus the added cost of 93 if you go that route. Try a few tanks of 93 in Sport mode..it might be enough to make you happy.

I'm loving my 5 Star Tuning performance tune for my 23' 5.0. It rocks with E85 in the tank! Consider giving them a shot.

Just so you know the ford updates is erasing tunes and putting the truck back to stock tune.

Just purchased an SCT X4 tuner and want input on the best tune for my 2022 5.0 v8. I was looking at Oz and 5 star. I also just read a Post that the Ford automatic updates change your tune back to stock. Can anyone confirm that??

It did it on mine. With OZTuning you will have to get your strategy code again and send it to OZ and they will give you a new tune.
