It was removed in order to save a dollar or two on the truck. Or to make a bundle should not having a door be a deal breaker.

My Xl should be delivered in Sep. and I am looking into what it would take to retrofit one. It sucks that's a feature I really liked

Do they leave it open but no door or completely block it off?

At first I was bummed when I found out my XL wouldn't have an upper glove box. Now that I have the truck I'm glad it's gone. The shelf/cubby is great for holding some snacks or a phone or gloves. My wife is the one who sits on the passenger side and pointed out to me how convenient it will be for her. It's also one less thing to break. (y)

This is my 2022 XL without the upper glove box door. I initially would have preferred the door, but the expense and hassle to add a door are not worth it to me. Notice the blanked off missing push button under the right AC vent that opens the upper door that models with the upper door have, just this may be very expensive to add. This really bugged me after I ordered my XL and found out the 2022 XLs did not get the upper door and the 2021 XLs did, I have grown used to it and do not miss it at all now. Actually a few months ago when I was searching "missing upper glove box door", found out there were a few people having issues with the upper doors, might be an advantage to people that keep their truck long term not to have the door as its opening/closing mechanism wears out.

I like that you folks are looking at the upsides in not having it ;)

I’d say it’s not really anymore convenient, one could just leave the door open if they don’t want to push a button.

In a more work oriented truck I kinda like the open bin. Certainly beats this nonsense in the 2020 that wouldn't contain much more than a Snickers bar and a pack of gum. I haven't heard of issues with the door but it has that "this thing is going to break eventually" feel about it. If warranty costs were adding up that cost would also help drive deletion.

Ford's decision is likely heavily influenced by their commercial customers and by warranty claims. The less moving, breakable, parts the better for commercial use and I am sure, as fragile as that door seems, it has been an issue that has come up over and over again when speaking with some of Ford's largest XL purchasing groups.

Agree. Wanted the closed box at first, but like it better now. Passenger says that it is a great spot to put their book.

Glad mine came with the upper door...heck my 2011 Ram had the cubby...we are almost to 2023...everything should look smooth and seamless.

I have a 21 XLT
Personally, I like the cover.
I tend to keep stuff in there I seldom have to access.
And, with the door, they will stay put.
These trucks (particularly the ones equipped with consoles), have cubby holes everywhere..
My console equipped truck does not have the sliding front door.
This works well for me. Stuff gets crammed in there that I’m always rooting for.
(small flashlights, phone/tablet cables, watch charging cable, Halls cough drops(to help with clearing sinuses), Rolaids ( I shouldn’t have eaten that).

This truck is so much easier to keep respectable looking.
Most of this stuff just ended up on the passenger floor of the previous pickups for lack of a home. My wife called the interior of my trucks “scary”

I bought my STX right off the Ford web site without going to a dealer. The Ford pics CLEARLY show the upper glove box door and an open/close center console on the STX. My delivered truck has neither. Can anyone inform me where it shows or states my XL STX will not have these features when every XL and STX pic shows them? I have asked Ford to educate me also. We'll see....
