Took my truck to the dealer this morning for an oil change and was informed that the oil plug started leaking oil after they drained and refilled the engine. Originally they said they needed a new drain bolt but figured out that the thread insert in the pan had separated from the pan causing it to leak oil everywhere. The truck is getting a new oil pan under warranty at 51k miles.

I wanted to see if anyone has seen this problem before. I have a feeling the tech overtightened the plug and caused it to crack, but I’m a little worried this could happen again. Hoping it’s just a defect.

Is that a steel or plastic oil pan?
I know that F-150’s from 4-5 years ago had many problems with leaking on 5.0 engines to the point that they went months waiting for replacement

I had my dealer install a Fumoto valve at my first oil change so now might be a good time to add one. It sure makes changing your own oil mess free.

Totally agree! Only took me one time to change my oil before i decided to go with the Fumoto valve. Once installed properly, it's so easy to change the oil and at my age, 65, anything I can do to make things easier is a big plus!

I wouldnt call it an oil pan failure as it was no doubt a problem caused by the technician during an oil change. why people feel the need to torque a non load bearing, no pressure oil pan plug to 75lbft is beyond me.

this is just another reason I avoid the “quick lane” oil change. you can search any car forum out there and read stories of over tightened , not tightened, or cross threaded pan bolts all day long.

at least the dealer owned up and is doing it under warranty. even tho if you ask me thats on them, not Ford.

F137N: Long Nipple Oil Drain Valve With M12-1.75
  • SKU: F137N

  • Selected for "Ford 2022 F-150 3.5L V6" engine
I purchased it directly from Fumoto's website. The website was easy enuf to navigate to determine the correct valve for my specific truck.

Hi Grant! I can look into your F-150's concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your F-150's VIN?
