2 Way Radio Install Question

Asking how you folks got 12VDC to your radios. I prefer a direct path to the battery as the radio is capable of 65W.

I've got an MY23 Lariat and the center console doesn’t make life easy. I can’t find an obvious path through the firewall. Any pics or ideas would be helpful. I did manage to find a path through the console to the driver side.

I believe I have read where they remove the fender vent cover and access a point there to help run wire to the battery through the fire wall

I just finished insta a mobile ham radio in my 2022 F-150 Limited. There is a rubber boot on the driver’s side just behind and above the pedals on the left. Most if not all of the truck’s wiring goes through it. Under the hood, look for it under the brake master cylinder.

Just snip the cable tie on either side, carefully push a tube of some kind through to stretch it open, be careful not to damage the rubber boot. Then push your wire through, pull out the tube and install new cable ties.

I used a stake pocket mount at the back of the box for the antenna. It was easy to get that cable into the rear of the cab through the air vents behind the back seat.

I’ve attached photos of the antenna and dash mount. Sorry, I don’t have photos of the wire access. I can shoot some and send if needed.

I ran power directly from the battery (well aux switch and relay) through the grommet on the drivers side firewall. Slice the nipple, lube your wire, and push it through. You can use a pull tape to make life easier.
