I recently purchased a 25 F150 with the 2.7L ecoboost. I've seen a bunch of different catch cans but I'm leaning towards the Improved Racing one due to higher capacity and mounting not on the battery tray. Does anyone have or have had any experience with Improved Racing?

It's definitely not a waste of money. Every DI engine in use can benefit from a catch can. Unless you like wasting money down the road on shell blasting the valves.

Doesn't the 2.7 have port injection in addition to direct injection to keep the valves clean?

talk to mechanics. Even the dual system doesn’t keep the valves clean. After about 150 K the intake runners and the valve, stems and backside of valves start to get enough deposit to start to restrict airflow create misfires.

Ive been a mechanic since 1993 and have worked on Ford's and VW's. Anything with DI will have dirty valves. A catch can is not going to be 100% but it's cheap and better than the alternative of cleaning valves.
