While driving on a 900 mile trip I noticed some strange happenings while using Navigation.

# 1 At seemingly random times the upcoming nav guidance will show up in the display between the Tach and the speedometer but most times it does not, while it always shows between the gauges. Is this normal ? If so what causes it to display between the Tach and speedometer and can it be set to always display there?

That is normal. When a turn is coming up it will show as a large turn arrow. It will be a curve or sharp turn depending on stop signs/lights or sweeping exits. Other times it will be a smaller version that’s still a ways off or miles to the event.

Solution: Google Maps or Android Auto (or the Apple variant).

I rather like the way Navigation changes the scaling of the all digital instrument cluster.
Without Nav engaged, the tachometer and speedometer seem too large

I like my 8" cluster as the screen is for relevant data. The 12" is just a waste for what it is, using most of it to simply display analog gauges. It'd be different if they actually did something like allow a lot of configuration, but it's just wasted on digital analog gauges.

The mach-e is even worse w/ its all digital IPC. It doesn't really display jack.

Yes.
That 12" display not having any kind of option for various themes or levels of detail is a wasted opportunity to dazzle, as well as having something that might please a wider audience.

The built in Ford navigation is a joke in my area.

If I used it in the areas I drive the most I would be a real life version of Michael from that episode of the Office where he drives into the water. Either that or dead. There are multiple places where bridges used to exist 50+ years ago and haven’t since that it tried to route me through constantly. I also live near a military base that opened in 1917 that Ford’s navigation thinks it would be a good idea for me to trespass on. No other navigation- Garmin, TomTom, Waze, Google, Apple, Honda’s Garmin, GMC has ever tried to take me into these areas.

Mine only shows the large arrow occasionally in the center.

I've had the 12 inch display in a RAM 1500, UConnect5. i'll have to say, its a lot more useful and configurable.

After paying closer attention I found that the directions between tach speedometer only happens for the 1 st one.

I am really bummed about how underutilized the 12" instrument panel is. It is staggering how little information it shows in each screen.. For example, why can't the eco drive coach be combined with trip information? Why can't the trip information screens also have instantaneous mpg information or any number of other combinations? Why not show the tachometer when BC is engaged?

Plus the tach and speedometer take up so much real estate! AND they don't have any analog display options.

It is a beautiful display that is completely under utilized! It is such a travesty..
